Location: Baltimore, MD Category: Staff Posted On: Mon Oct 17 2022 Job Description: The primary responsibilities of this position involve supervising the Advanced Placement Summer Institute (APSI) which provides graduate courses and other trainings related to teacher professional development. The director recruits and hires consultants (APSI faculty) trained by the College Board and institutes new College Board courses as needed to meet the needs of educators and other school personnel. The director primarily focuses on the APSI content and AP Capstone programs that provide intensive one-week courses that are offered online and in person during the summer. In addition, the director coordinates a Pre-AP Summer Institute for teachers of Grade 9 students. Acting as the direct liaison to the College Board is an essential component of the director's role. Furthermore, the director is expected to establish and maintain positive relationships externally with local education partners and prospective students, as well as internally with faculty, staff, and offices that support the implementation of the APSI. This part-time position reports to the Director of Graduate Programs in Education. Job Requirements:Education: Required: Bachelor's Degree Preferred: Master's Degree Professional Experience: Required: A minimum of five years of experience in K-12 education, specifically related to the responsibilities of this position. Knowledge of the Advanced Placement program, and student recruitment is required. Proficiency in faculty hiring practices, project management, data collection and management, and the use of Microsoft Office are expected. Excellent written, and verbal communication skills, and strong organizational and interpersonal skills are essential, as well as the ability to effectively problem solve and adapt. Preferred: Experience teaching at an institution of higher learning that uses online registration platforms, and familiarity with local school systems' Advanced Placement programs, the director registers all students. Additional Information:Salary Range: $41,602 - $48,944 Essential Job Functions: Manage the APSI Program year-round with the help of a five-month assistant. Use the College Board's Cvent event system to design, populate, and manage course, faculty, and registration information for each week of the APSI and other trainings related to teacher professional development.Recruit, interview, and hire new consultants trained by the College Board as faculty for the APSI. Work closely with faculty and offices across the College to ensure the smooth administration of all APSI programs.Manage the APSI budget in collaboration with the Office of the Provost and the Controller's Office. Collaborate with the education program team to align content standards among the graduate-level courses and to help integrate the APSI into the graduate programs involving education. Collaborate directly with the Digital Learning team to plan for online learning professional development and support for APSI faculty.Collaborate directly with the Marketing team to publicize the APSI through direct emails to the College Board lists, postcard mailings, and social media posts. Identify new Advanced Placement program opportunities that align with Goucher's mission and priorities. Keep abreast of current trends in K-16 education, particularly regarding topics for new program development.Interact with Goucher undergraduate faculty to plan for specific connections between undergraduate program faculty and APSI students by content area.Interact with state officials to stay current about teacher professional development requirements.Assist in training the Assistant for Summer Educational Graduate ProgramsOther duties as assigned.
