FTI Consulting Public AffairsThe US Public Affairs practice is comprised of 80 professionals in Washington, DC and across the country, and is led by former House, Senate, White House and federal agency senior staff members, policy experts, press secretaries, journalists, and Congressional and Presidential campaign veterans. Our practitioners possess highly relevant public and government affairs experience and deep subject matter expertise in energy, industrials, health care, financial services, and technology. Together with our Financial Communications, Crisis and Litigation, and Corporate Reputation practices, we are uniquely qualified to help clients navigate complex challenges at the intersection of government and business.Managing Director PositionWe are currently seeking an entrepreneurial leader and proactive individual to join our team as a Managing Director in our Financial Services Public Affairs practice. As a Managing Director, you will be skillful at leading new business opportunities, have the ability to develop and maintain strong "trusted advisor" relationships with clients, and effectively led teams and collaborate with peers. You will have a demonstrable track record of working in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment, and of expertly using media, direct advocacy, third parties, policy research and intelligence to advance companies' agenda in Washington. Your performance will be evaluated predominantly on three core components: 1.) Deliver outstanding communications counsel and work product to clients; 2.) Generate profitable, sustainable new business from prospective and existing clients; and 3.) Mentor and manage talent within the team.What You'll DoQualified candidates must possess and demonstrate (1) an excellent command of the legislative, regulatory and communications challenges and opportunities facing the Financial Services sector, broadly, and leading companies therein, specifically (2) working knowledge of/experience working in Financial Services related policy making circles in Washington, including relevant think tanks and trade associations, key trade and news media publications (3) practice leadership/management skills, and (4) exceptional work ethic.Client ServiceStrategic Counsel: providing expert communications, advocacy, positioning and other strategic counsel to clientsAccount Management: managing overall quality and delivery of work on multiple accounts in a dynamic, fast-paced environmentOversee project management efforts on client projects and workstreams, including market research, strategy formation, and content creation, such as conducting a multi-stakeholder materiality assessmentAnticipate client needs and concerns and work proactively with colleagues to address themIdentify creative ways to engage on core issues and create new opportunities for clients to advocate for key priorities through events, meetings, and partnershipsBuild and/or manage coalitions, maintain relationships with third-party stakeholders, and mobilize like-minded outside groups to advance client prioritiesExhibit commercial excellence: overseeing/managing budgets, invoicing, etc.Business DevelopmentGenerate and lead new business development effortsIdentify emerging opportunities to add greater value for clientsLead the business development, production, and continuous improvement of client proposals and practice marketing materials;Recognize and apply global and regional social, economic and other impactful policy trends, and translating those insights into actionable ideasGrow the public affairs practice through marketing and networking to showcase the expertise of FTI public affairs professionals; andPossess, develop and maintain relationships with applicable trade associations, journalists/media outlets, think tanks and relevant industry leaders to enhance and grow business.Practice LeadershipEffectively lead account teams on complex client communications challengesActively manage, develop, inspire, and motivate staff to excelAnticipate potential challenges and evaluate strategies with senior managementWork with a growing team across multiple locations to develop project deliverablesParticipate in thought leadership on emerging trends and issuesAssist in mentoring, training, and integrating junior/ new teammates and internsLead overall client strategy, programming and execution.Basic QualificationsMinimum of BA/BS from accredited college or university10 years of relevant financial services legislative and / or regulatory experience, issues management, public policy advocacy, communications and/or media affairs experienceCongressional, Executive Branch, trade association and/or trade journalism experience is beneficialExisting relationships within the financial services political and advocacy space is desirableOn-the-record media affairs experience; relationships with industry-focused journalists is preferredExceptional command of financial services industry, including asset management, banks and thrifts, brokerage, digital assets, financial technology, insurance, payments and processing, private equity and specialty financeAbility to work under pressing deadlines across multiple projects and portray calm in the face of difficult situations to clients and other team membersSuperior strategic thinking, writing, and presentation skills requiredOutstanding work ethic, high-energy, a team-mindset, and strong time and priority management skills; andStrong proficiency and proven experience working in all Microsoft Office applications, particularly Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.Our BenefitsApart from the well-structured career path and excellent team environment, our employees enjoy a variety of perks and benefits.
