We currently have openings for Embedded Software Engineers (full-time) located in our Arlington, VA office. Our ideal candidate is experienced in at advanced research, software design and implementation and/or experimentation and data analysis. You must be a US Citizen to apply.At Apogee Research you will:Work with a world-class team of researchers and developers to tackle problems considered too difficult or too risky for commercial marketsLead and collaborate with small teams of 4-8 technical people to develop novel technologies and transition them for operational useJump into the deep end of the pool and learn something new every dayWork for US Government R&D customers for agencies such as DARPAParticipate in all aspects of the software R&D life cycle, from brainstorming and software and system design through testing and deliveryKey Responsibilities:In this role, you will work on a variety of applied research projects in support of new technology development and innovation. The type of work will be programming centric with many opportunities for developing and applying other skills. As a member of a diverse research and engineering (R&E) team, you will have many opportunities to work with, be mentored by, and mentor others while learning and applying the Apogee's agile R&E process. You'll also be charged with:Analyze operational problems and architect complex software systems that are robust to change in a research-based development environment to address mission needsPerform hands-on technical work including design and development of algorithmically complex software, performance profiling, optimization, and general troubleshooting for a variety of software stacks spanning from Java and Python to project-specific DSLsWork with the software team lead to identify, plan, and execute the long-term engineering roadmap, including identifying and identify areas of risk and possible risk mitigationsOwn responsibility for the success of technical customer-facing program objectivesMentor junior team members to foster growth of technical and program expertiseLearn new technologies and develop fundamentally new approaches as neededActively identifying, exploring, researching, and developing new technologies in a broad range of technology focus areas such as security communications and computingAssisting with transfers of new technologies into other development stages and other groups of the companyCreating new and novel solutions for current problems while continually pursuing the hard problemsQualificationsMust be eligible to obtain and maintain a US Government Security Clearance; therefore, any applicant MUST BE A US CITIZEN.Experience building robust and maintainable software to solve algorithmically complex problemsStrong analytical and problem solving and organizational skillsProven experience with building services, supportability, and monitoring infrastructuresEffective communication skills, both verbal and writtenDemonstrated ability to be flexible and remain well organized in a fast-paced environmentOperational understanding of classical computer science topics including data structures, algorithms, design patterns, types, and computational theory. Minimum Education:Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or similarMinimum Qualifications:5+ years of relevant experience with a thorough understanding of the fundamentals of computer and network security.High proficiency in a language such as C++ or JavaWorking experience with Linux/UNIX Operating SystemsStrong written and oral communication skillsStrong demonstrable coding skillsPreferred Qualifications:Experience doing researched based software engineering development workExperience working in research team environmentsExperience with research methodologiesExperience working in research team environmentsExperience with research methodologiesMasters or PhD in relevant technical field with significant real-world experience About Apogee ResearchApogee Research conducts research and development (R&D) of advanced computer network operations (CNO) and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities to improve national security.
