Center City staff are teachers, mentors, and leaders, and they play an important role in ensuring each of our students maximize their potential. Our network serves over 1,400 students annually at our six campuses, located across the District, with a staff of over 250 dedicated individuals.Special Education teachers work under the direct supervision of the campus principal, with additional support from the Student Support Services Department at Central Office. Special Education teachers are expected to help create an environment that is inclusive of students with disabilities, set high expectations, and deliver targeted instruction for students with disabilities. The ideal candidate is highly knowledgeable on the Common Core State Standards and in research-based instructional strategies for diverse learners.General responsibilities include, but are not limited to:Use various sources of data for purposes of IEP development and amendments, developing lessons, and determining students' progress toward goals; write IEP progress reports using student data describing progress toward goalsPlan and deliver meaningful instruction in and outside the general education classroom that aligns to grade-level Common Core standards, mapped backwards to target students' present levels of performanceWrite and implement IEPs that are designed with student, parent, and general education teacher input, various data sources, target priority skills, and include meaningful accommodations and classroom supportsDeliver targeted instruction to students individually or in small groups; use data to track and communicate student progress, and propose adaptations to IEP programming Support development of behavior intervention plans (BIPs) or informal behavior systems; hold students accountable to high behavioral expectations while supporting their social-emotional developmentEngage families meaningfully to discuss their child's progress and include input on IEPs, evaluation decisions, and Secondary Transition PlansEngage parents and families in their child's academic success by fostering an ongoing relationship centered around hopes and dreams.Work collaboratively with general and special education teachers to plan and deliver general education curriculumWork collaboratively with general education teachers to ensure they implement accommodations and supports for students as outlined in their IEPParticipate in the Center City PCS learning community via PLC's, campus/district professional development, and weekly campus based grade-level planning sessionsReflect on teaching by accepting ongoing informal feedback and implement changes based on that feedbackFollow school-wide procedures for attire, behavior, and punctuality (teacher hours are 8:00AM - 4:00PM)Attend and participate in occasional school events outside of regular school hoursQualificationsMaster's Degree in Special Education (preferred), or a related fieldLicensure in Special Education, or plans to obtain licensure in Special EducationStrong familiarity with the Common Core Coherence Map for Math, with experience teaching Eureka Math curriculum preferredMinimum of 3 years of teaching experience (five years preferred)Extensive knowledge of best practices in classroom management, instructional strategies to support diverse learning needs, and use of data to support instruction, with evidence of growthWorking knowledge of EasyIEP, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google Drive strongly preferredMust have working knowledge of federal and local special education lawsReferences that reflect high standing with past employerAble to lift up to 10 pounds and able to stand for long hoursMust be able to show proof of full vaccination against COVID-19BenefitsCenter City PCS offers the following benefits to all full-time employees.Medical, Dental and Vision insurance premiums subsidized by employer401k Retirement Plan with employer matchPre-tax Flexible Spending AccountsLife and Disability InsurancePaid sick and personal time offThis description is intended to describe the type of work being performed by a person assigned to this position.
