As a Data & Platform Architect, you will provide technical leadership, design & architect end-to-end data platform & data hub product solutions that are highly scalable, performant, secure and resilient. You rely on sound judgement, critical thinking and creativity to deliver customer focused data solutions that create meaningful business impact. You are experienced with various patterns of data ingestion, processing, and curation. You understand criticality of data quality, security & governance practices and are adept at it. You design solutions with strategic and long-term focus on code quality, reliability, reusability, maintainability and dataops. You are experienced in building efficient and scalable data services.Within the first 30 days, get to know team and develop a high-level understanding of team's technical domain, data platform architecture and responsibilities. Begin operating as a part of data engineering team.Within the first 90 days, understand the data hub product architecture and build healthy relationships. Work with and across product data hub teams to guide their low level designs and influence their technical decisions to align with architectural standards. Perform hands on work using Hive, Spark & Presto to build next generation Near Real-time data analytics platform.Within the first 120 days, collaborate with the Engineering Leadership, Product Management and existing data engineering teams to design, develop, and publish software architecture specifications that evolve and scale the big data processing components of our Engineering platform. Within 180 days and beyond, understand all integrations, enterprise architecture and collaborate with enterprise architecture team across different orgs to understand the bigger picture and implement meaningful architecture solutions on data engineering platform aligning to company priorities.The Work: What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis? Experience architecting, designing and developing large scale data solutions/software development utilizing a mixture of Big Data and Relational database platforms.Design, implement and operate large-scale, high-volume, high-performance data structures for analytics and data science. Contribute towards platform engineering, tooling & standards to improve the productivity and quality of data solutions. Ability to write designs for data architecture of data warehouse or data lake solutions for end to end data pipelines.Experienced in creating meaningful dashboards using enterprise tools such as Tableau, SAP BOBJ and other open source reporting platforms.Excellent knowledge of data warehouse technical architecture, infrastructure components, ETL/ELT , reporting/analytic tools , microservices & Kubernetes.Expertise in Hive/Hadoop/SAP HANA/Spark/Presto/PythonGood understanding of data modelling facilitates both operational insights and reporting as well as enabling advanced AI/ML models in order to develop data-driven recommendations. Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS), Redshift is a plus.Ability to communicate effectively at Senior management level.What is the leadership like for this role? What is the structure and culture of the team like?You will be joining the Data engineering team, comprised of 90+ engineers spread throughout VMware offices including Palo Alto, CA, Austin, TX, India, and Costa Rica.
