You'll get opportunities to work with engineering teams across our products to solve challenging problems, design, automate and implement a framework and automation for Tanzu Kubernetes Platform solutions to accelerate our rate of development and releaseWhat is primary need, technical challenge, and/or problem you will be responsible for??Tanzu Kubernetes Platform (TKP) Engineering team is seeking an Engineering Director to own the Build, Test and Release (BTR) charter. As a leader for the organization you will work with the team to create a charter for the team and execute on it with a clear plan. As a leader, you'll have the opportunity to make significant and direct impact on our products and solve some of the most complex challenges. You will interact with Global Support Team, Technical Account Managers, as well as interacting with customers directly. You will be involved in roadmap planning, design and delivery of innovative and business critical applications. You will participate in all phases of the software development cycle as part of a Scrum team. You will be leading multi-functional agile teams to regularly experiment, iterate, and deliver on new product objectives with end-to-end responsibility for your team's goals.Success in the Role: What are the performance goals over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing? As a leader of the organisation drive hiring strategy for the team and help hire and grow the talentParticipate in strategic planning and management for product portfolios, investment, resources, product releases, etc.? You will own the Tanzu Kubernetes Platform (TKP) Build, Test and Release (BTR) charter: Define and implement a BTR charter which clearly depicts how customer would be implementing the Tanzu products and how we release software faster to customers securely with the right quality.As part of the BTR charter You will lead a team to (1) develop and maintain solid test framework along with required automation of the workflows. (b) Create necessarily tooling for enabling the developer productivity (c) Define a release process and implement a sustainable release model meeting our customers' needs that enables developers to push the features/fixes on a regular cadence.Leading engineering design and development efforts including providing guidance to several teams building services, ensuring that the solution is delivered on-time and with high quality Transform the organization and the software development process to a SaaS delivery modelCustomer first approach: Your team will be the voice of our customers (both internal and external) for the team.What type of work will you be doing? What assignments or requirements will you be performing on a regular basis?Most of your time will be spent in leading, growing and building software development teams. You are expected to up-level the team skills, encourage innovation and lay down development plan for the team. You will need to become very familiar with the build, test and release process and problems around these areas. Understand the challenges and limitations of the existing system. Demonstrate the ability to contribute to engineering roadmap and design discussions considering both of these. You will help drive teams doing refactor and redesign efforts that involve driving order-of-magnitude improvement in services while ensuring they are extensible to support innovative new use cases. You would help transform the organization and software development process from delivering software only to enterprise software and cloud services/SaaS models. You will also build the "Devops/Dev owns quality" mindset in the team to help maintain the software services delivered by the team. You will be the custodian of the BTR process and will be signing off on releases by coordinating with multiple engineering organizations.What is the leadership like for this role? Sudheesh joined VMware in 2020 with the mission to create the Tanzu Kubernetes Platform engineering and Tanzu Edge team. Sudheesh has more than 24 years of experience in the IT industry. He spent more than 12 years with VMware in various engineering roles prior to becoming the Head of Engineering and India MD for OVHcloud, A French cloud service provider.Our management philosophy is to build a team culture that empowers technology experts to work autonomously without concern of undue management oversight.
