Its range of interests includes curriculum, instructional personnel, assessment, accreditation, international initiatives, and oversight of the overall academic mission. Undergraduate Education manages the Undergraduate and Mason Core Curriculum, Academic Advising, Fellowships, UNIV Programs, and the Mason Impact initiatives including Civic Engagement.About the Position:The Office of Fellowships aims to raise the academic profile of Mason and its students by encouraging talented undergraduate students to explore fellowship opportunities and resources available to advance their academic and professional goals. Our vision is to lead a social justice-oriented fellowships practice that prioritizes community impact above individual achievement.The Undergraduate Fellowships Program Specialist is responsible for recruiting current and alumni Mason undergraduates to apply for nationally competitive awards and providing the applicants comprehensive support through the application process. The Program Specialist will recruit applicants with the principle of inclusive excellence in mind, targeting underrepresented populations and provide holistic advising that emphasizes student development over award prestige. The Program Specialist will contribute to Mason's strategic goals of developing well-rounded and impactful scholars through external study, research, and professional opportunities.Responsibilities:Specific duties include:Individual Student Advising/Consultation: Work 1:1 with undergraduate students to identify appropriate fellowship opportunities and support applicant progress (by providing feedback on applicant essays, interview coaching etc.);Applicant Recruitment: Create and implement programming to attract student interest in fellowships through virtual and in-person workshops, as well as collaborative events across Mason's three campuses (ex: Study Abroad Fair and Graduate Research Conference). Support director in managing honor societies;Partner Engagement: Create and maintain connections with academic and administrative units across institution to spread awareness of the office and perform targeted recruitment;Facilitating Institutional Endorsement/Nomination: Assist Interim Director in recruiting committee members for institutional endorsement process; participate in institutional review and drafting of nomination letters; andFellowships Representation: Serve as office representative to divisional, university, and community committees, work groups, and task forces.Required Qualifications:Bachelors degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Master's degree in any field preferred;Demonstrated (typically 2-3 years) professional experience working in a university setting;Experience serving and supporting diverse student populations;Experience with or demonstrated knowledge in one or more of the following areas: fellowship advising, special awards/grants management, undergraduate research, academic advising, career services; andDemonstrated experience with communication, program development, and administrative skills in their previous experience and interview process.
