Full Time

  • Responds on and off site to accidents and other emergencies involving injury and illnesses.
  • Responds to alarms, combats fire, and rescues personnel requiring the full performance of firefighting tasks.
  • Inspects operational readiness of fire apparatus, medic units, and various types of equipment.
  • Unreels and connects hose, lays hose lines, operates charged lines, places and raises ladders, operates portable and stationary firefighting apparatus, ventilates buildings.
  • Serves as Firefighter/EMT-B providing fire and emergency services for all post structures, facilities, and personnel.
  • Employs a variety of established emergency medical techniques, methods, and equipment to stabilize the patient before transporting to a health care facility.
  • Determines the nature and seriousness of the patient's condition by performing the initial and on-going focused patient assessment and physical examination including the search for medical alert symbols.
  • Evacuates or rescues occupants, uses chemicals, axes, bars, hooks, self-contained breathing apparatus and other firefighting equipment to extinguish fires and protect life and property.
  • Serves as a fully trained member of a fire fighting crew engaged in the protection of life and property.
  • Acts as on-scene attendant in-charge at emergency incidents.


Conditions of Employment

  • Appointment to this position is subject to a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position requires participation in the Fire Division's Fitness and Wellness Program that includes a cardiovascular physical fitness program IAW NFPA 1583 and DODI 6055.06.
  • Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion.
  • This position has a mandatory Hepatitis B immunization requirement.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • Work requires a valid U.S. Government motor vehicle operator's license within 3 months of employment.
  • This position requires you to obtain and maintain a valid Emergency Operators certification within 12 months of employment.
  • This position is subject to recall after normal duty hours and is subject to an uncommon tour of duty: 72 hours work per week (144 hours per pay period) which includes evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
  • This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a two year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes responding to fire and rescue incidents such as brush, forest and structural fires, hazardous material spills, releases and containment and decontamination work; providing basic life support treatment to patients within the pre-hospital environment performing patient assessments and examinations and providing prompt and efficient patient care. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.

For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
