Westat is seeking a senior survey methodologist. This role will require the candidate to work both independently and as part of a team; lead methodological research projects; and mentor junior or intern staff.  

Job Responsibilities:
• Conduct methodological research to develop and improve survey procedures and capabilities. Examples of the methodological areas of particular interest include, but are not limited to, the use of paradata (audio, video, text, other), questionnaire design, question evaluation and testing methods, the design and testing of multi-mode surveys, methods to increase response rates, the design of methodological experiments for surveys, and evaluation of data quality and measurement error as well as nonresponse and other survey errors.

• Serve as senior methodologist on survey projects.  This includes providing development and design expertise across all data collection modes (in-person, telephone, web, self-administered) and share responsibility with project staff for development activities. This role requires working with a variety of teams of substantive and operational specialists to implement and evaluate surveys conducted for a wide array of clients in both the public and private sectors.

• Write analytical reports and communicate results to non-technical audiences.

• Support business development by contributing to proposal and grant writing efforts; contribute to thought leadership by attending professional conferences and writing manuscripts for publication; and mentor junior and intern staff.

Job Requirements:
• A Masters in Survey Methodology or other quantitative field with course work in Survey Methods and at least 8 years of work experience in survey methodology; or a PhD in Survey Methodology or other quantitative field with course work in Survey Methods and at least 3 years of work experience in survey methodology

Qualified candidate must have excellent communication skills, strong organizational skills, and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.  Prior publication of research and involvement in appropriate professional associations is strongly encouraged.
