Job Summary
The Assistant Manager Elevator Escalator Inspection supports the Office of Elevator and Escalator with the inspection of elevator and escalator systems. The incumbent resolves field issues, design and procurement specifications, technical drawing and document control to improve the inspection process and plan. Also, the Assistant Manager Escalator Inspection serves as a liaison with the external authorities in the jurisdiction of Maryland, District of Columbia and Virginia.

Education
- High School Diploma or possession of a General Equivalent Diploma (GED)
Experience
- Seven (7) years of experience inspecting, maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting vertical transportation equipment of which a three (3) years must be in a supervisory role
Certification/Licensure
- Technical Certification/License in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics or software engineering, or related technical field; and any additional jurisdictional required
- National Association of Elevator Safety Authorities (NAESA) QEI-1 certification or equivalent QEI-1 certification recognized in District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia jurisdictions
- A valid driver's license issued from the jurisdiction of residence

Essential Functions
- Reports activities to the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ), all daily, weekly, monthly and annual reports about accidents, re-inspections and third-party inspections. Ensures compliance with all jurisdiction rules and regulations.
- Documents all the Authority's inspections related to elevator and escalators in compliance with jurisdiction rules and regulations and states the condition of each asset. Reports to management all assets requiring urgent action on a daily and weekly basis.
- Responds to field issues and coordinates with engineering and maintenance groups to resolve issues, ensure compliance and increase quality assurance.
- Coordinates inspection team and implements daily emergency substitutions to optimize the utilization of elevator and escalator systems. Addresses emergency situations.
- Coordinates monthly inspection of elevators and escalators to ensure compliance with and to satisfy all jurisdictional requirements, increase quality assurance.
- Coordinates yearly inspections with the Authority's third-party inspection company to ensure compliance with jurisdiction rules and regulations. Reports the condition of each asset and specific asset changes to each jurisdiction.
- Verifies the completion of all deficiencies required for elevator and escalator certificate renewal. Ensures that Washington Authority Area Transit Authority (WMATA)'s quality and safety standards are met.
- Coordinates inspector work schedules, shift changes, vacations, sick leave and optimizes staff resources to ensure the day-to-day operations are not affected and the 100% Inspection goal is met.
- Coordinates with AHJ changes to the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) regarding the Authority's special events. Ensures interruption-free, smooth work operations.
OTHER FUNCTIONS
- Plans and tracks Continuing Education Unit (CEU) classes and yearly Qualified Elevator Inspector (QEI) recertification requirements for all Elevator and Escalator Services (ELES) inspectors.
- Operates WMATA vehicle as necessary
