The Principal Signals Software Engineer develops, maintains, and enhances signal processing software (eg detectors, demodulators, protocol processors). Works individually or as part of a team. Reviews and tests software components for adherence to the design requirements and documents test results. Resolves software problem reports. Utilizes software development and software design methodologies appropriate to the development environment. Provides specific input to the software components of system design to include hardware/software trade-offs, software reuse, use of Commercial Off-the-shelf (COTS)/Government Off-the-shelf (GOTS) in place of new development, and requirements analysis and synthesis from system level to individual software components. The successful candidate for this position will have a strong passion and background in making quality production software at all stages of the software lifecycle. You will be a key member of a team that is developing analytic tools and technologies to support real-world planning and intelligence operations for the Department of Defense. You will serve as an on-site member of the software team responsible for designing, developing, and deploying an analytic architecture and the applications that will run in this architecture. *Principal Signal Software Engineer Requirements:* * *Hold an active TS/SCI with Polygraph Security Clearance* * BS degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a closely related field with 12 years of relevant work experience *OR* 18-21 years of related experience in lieu of a degree * Signal SW engineering experience should have a focus on Radio Frequency (RF) to include experience with Fourier transforms, filtering, communications theory, digital modulation, error control coding, signals analysis tools (eg WVT, DVT), and digital signal processing (eg adaptive beamforming/ filtering, demodulation) * Analyze user requirements to derive software design and performance requirements * Design and code new software or modify existing software to add new features * Debug existing software and correct defects * Describe various signal processing techniques * Identify various digital modulation techniques * Write software using C++, Java, suggest languages as needed to solve problems * Advanced understanding of the Linux operating system * Integrate existing software into new or modified systems or operating environments * Provide recommendations for improving documentation and software development process standards * Develop/implement algorithms to meet system performance and functional standards * Assist with developing and executing test procedures for software components * Write/review software and system documentation * Analyze systems flow, data usage, and work processes * Investigate problem areas * Serve as team lead at the level appropriate to the software development process being used on any particular project * Modify existing software to correct errors, adapt to new hardware, or improve its performance * Design, develop and modify software systems, using scientific analysis and mathematical models to predict and measure outcome and consequences of design * Use signal processing algorithms to convert a signal * Design signal processing software based on sparse documentation * Lead one or more software development teams and ensure the work is completed in accordance with the constraints of the software development process being used on any particular project * Design/ implement complex signal processing algorithms requiring adherence to strict timing, system resource, or interface constraints * Perform quality control on products * Confer with system engineers and software engineers to derive software requirements and to obtain information on project limitations and capabilities, performance requirements, and interfaces * Develop and maintain software framework to enable efficient processing of data * Implement recommendations for improving documentation and software development process standards * Serve as the technical lead of multiple software development teams * Select the software development process in coordination with the customer and system engineering * Recommend new technologies and processes for complex software projects * Ensure quality control of all developed and modified software * Write software using C++, Java; suggest other languages as needed to solve problems * Advanced understanding of the Linux operating system * Identify problems in any part of an RF collection and processing system, including hardware, software, databases * Delegate programming and testing responsibilities to one or more teams and monitor their performance *Principal Signal Software Engineer Additional Experience Preferred:* Software-defined radio architectures (eg SCA, REDHAWK, or GNU), commercial wireless standards, geolocation techniques, software configuration management tools (eg GIT, ClearQuest, Trac, or Subversion), Python, Eclipse IDE, Google Protocol Buffer, model-based design (eg Matlab, SIMULINK), service-oriented architecture, and Linux OS. Anticipated salary range: $132,825 - $188,000. Offer may vary depending on experience and skill set. *About Us:* Applied Research Associates, Inc.
