Digital History Project CoordinatorThe Roy Rosenzweig Center for History and New Media (rrchnm.org) is seeking a dynamic Project Coordinator for a one-year position working with the digital public history project, The Arnhem Postal History Project. The Arnhem Postal History Project (APH) is a digital spatial history project using GIS, CMS, and network tools that will make available to the public for the first time in digital exhibits over 3000 individual letters and postcards circulated inside and outside the Netherlands between 1939 and 1945. The collection is a critical one for understanding the everyday lives of the Dutch during WWII, postal history, and the history of the Holocaust.George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff, and it strongly encourages candidates to apply who will enrich Mason's academic and culturally inclusive environment.About the Department:RRCHNM is a mid-sized team of historians, web developers, and graduate students that creates open-source historical projects and that provides freely available online resources for teachers, scholars, and the public. RRCHNM is a highly collaborative organization with a mix of students, professional staff, faculty, and external collaborators and contractors who come together to create award-winning historical projects. All of our work is team-based and the person we hire for this position must work well in teams, must be able to take and give constructive criticism, and must enjoy sharing their successes with all.Responsibilities:The successful applicant will work with the principal investigator on project development and dissemination. Expected job duties will include but are not limited to collection management, workflow management, working with the developer and web designer to build the website, create exhibits, and attend weekly project meetings. The project manager will also produce website content including but not limited to regular blog posts and teaching material. This work can happen in a hybrid mode, but the successful candidate will be required to spend part of their time working in person at the center.Required Qualifications:B.A., or equivalent combination of education and related experience;Academic work in history or a related discipline;Experience with digital tools and methodologies including basic knowledge of GIS and mapping;Effective writing and communication skills;Ability to work with diverse stakeholders;Ability to supervise undergraduate workers;Basic knowledge of web design; andExperience collaborating in teams and working in a collaborative environment.Preferred Qualifications:Experience building online exhibits and history projects; andGraduate coursework in History.
