Duties

  • Collect, evaluate and analyze data, and draw conclusions regarding the effectiveness and adequacy of the area being studied.
  • Support the analysis of military capabilities and concepts utilizing multiple methodologies, both quantitative and qualitative.
  • Conduct equipping analysis at the line item numbers and portfolio levels based on assigned mission area.
  • Present completed work to requesting official and prepares final report for submission to leadership
  • Review and interpret broad policies, directives and/or regulations pertaining to assigned programs and guidance received from higher echelon.
  • Review completed work for adequacy in meeting the problem and for informational purposes.
  • Coordinate work to be accomplished, help set priorities and prepares schedules for completion of work.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirement for Operations Research Analyst:
Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in operations research; or a degree with at least 24 semester hours in a combination of operations research, mathematics, probability, statistics, mathematical logic, science, or subject-matter courses requiring substantial competence in college-level mathematics or statistics. At least 3 of the 24 semester hours must have been in calculus.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Specialized Experience:

One year of specialized experience which includes conducting literary research of pertinent directives and reports; evaluating data to draw conclusions on the effectiveness of areas being studied; presenting completed projects to recommend new policies and/or solutions; and coordinating and/or assigning work to be accomplished by subordinate employees. This specialized experience is equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal service.

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Education

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
