Duties

As a Scientific Project Manager , you may:
  • Provide expert leadership, advice and authoritative guidance to the Division of Translational Research staff in preparing and managing cooperative agreements and contracts.
  • Manage a portfolio of drug discovery grants, cooperative agreements, and contracts with trans-NIH scope including responsibility for all aspects of administration (i.e., organizing and managing).
  • Develop project plans and associated communications documents; manage the day-to-day activities of assigned Programs and Projects
  • Prepare and review data packages to support and defend recommendations to DTR, NINDS and NIH in forums such as NIH HEAL related meetings, NINDS Extramural Science Committee and NINDS Council meetings.
  • Provide direct or arranging for the necessary chemistry, pharmacology, neuroscience, and experimental design expertise to advance the translational and therapy development efforts as part of the NINDS mission.
  • Set and continually manage Program and Project expectations with team members and other stakeholders; effectively communicate expectations to all team members and stakeholders; identify and resolve issues and conflicts within Program and Project teams.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for this Scientific Project Manager, GS-0601 position, you must have successfully completed a Bachelor's Degree or graduate/higher level degree with major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of this position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

In addition, in order to qualify for the Scientific Project Manager at the GS-15 grade level, you must: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: Directing and managing a portfolio of multidisciplinary and milestone-driven drug research and development projects; developing and evaluating data related to preclinical therapeutic research and development plans; overseeing costs and obtaining funding for drug development projects; guiding the direction of drug research programs; developing procedures surrounding the administration of programs related to preclinical and pharmaceutical research and development; AND representing an organization at conferences and meetings with high-ranking scientists in academia, industry or government.
