Duties

  • Manages milestone-driven research and development activities projects in the area of small molecule therapeutics or biologics, which require well-defined goals and objective achieved with greatest efficiency.
  • Manages a portfolio of drug discovery and development grants (e.g., cooperative agreements) in the area of small molecule therapeutics or biologics with responsibility for all aspects of administration (i.e., organizing and managing).
  • Reviews, analyzes, evaluates, and makes recommendations on preclinical small molecule therapeutics or biologics development plans aimed at IND submission.
  • Develops and delivers progress reports, proposals, requirements documentation, and presentations.
  • Serves as a representative on NINDS, NIH and/or DHHS work groups as an expert in policy and procedure as it relates to the funding and administrative management of translational research projects.
  • Researches and prepares reports, briefing materials, and other compilations of Program and Project activities and policies for use in NINDS policy development, program planning, evaluation and implementation.
  • Conducts ongoing analyses of project performance and makes recommendations to identify successful and unsuccessful project elements.

Qualifications

You qualify at the GS-14 level, if you meet one of the following qualification requirements:

Minimum Education and Specialized Experience: In order to qualify for the Scientific Project Manager (Drug Discovery and Development), GS-0601 position, you must have successfully completed a bachelor's degree or graduate/higher level degree with major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of this position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

In addition, in order to qualify for the Scientific Project Manager (Drug Discovery and Development) at the GS-14 level, you must:

You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: managing a portfolio of milestone-driven pre-clinical drug development therapeutics projects; analyzing and evaluation pre-clinical drug development data; administering project budgets and obtaining funding/securing resources; assisting with the planning and administration of drug research programs; AND presenting drug research findings at conference and meetings.
