Duties

  • Must be able to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision.
  • Installs, modifies, repairs, maintains, troubleshoots, tests and operates electrical and electronic lines, circuits, systems and associated fixtures, controls, equipment, standby UPS systems, medium voltage switching stations and generators.
  • Uses nonstandard applications that lack clear precedents and require modifications to fabricate, install, troubleshoot and modify specialized electrical and electronic controls, monitoring systems and equipment designed to meet unique conditions.
  • Electrical systems are regularly subjected to extreme demands for accuracy of motion control and load sensing.
  • Responsible for power distribution lines and circuits that supply a wide range of voltage, amperage, phase and frequency requirements to equipment such as:
  • distribution panels, switchgear, power and control circuits, industrial multiphase systems, thermocouple sensors, lighting control systems, AC and DC rectification systems and galvanic and impressed current cathodic protection for equipment.

A. SCREEN OUT: Ability To Do Electrical Work Without More Than Normal Supervision

REQUIREMENT: Electricians in this position work without more than normal supervision to perform a variety of electrical assignments and projects required to operate and maintain electrical systems across various large multi-floor facilities.

You must have a fundamental understanding of the electrical trade based on the following knowledge, skills and/or abilities:

(1) knowledge of electrical theory;
(2) skill in applying accepted trade practices and techniques;
(3) ability to interpret and apply electrical instructions; and
(4) ability to use and maintain electrical tools

B. Additionally, your resume must describe duties you perform without more than normal supervision (e.g., with only regular spot-checks or guidance during progress and upon completion) that pertain to the following JOB ELEMENTS

(1) Knowledge of Electrical Equipment
(2) Knowledge of Electrical Theory
(3) Technical Practices
(4) Ability to Use Electrical Drawings
(5) Ability to Use and Maintain Tools
(6) Skill in Electrical Troubleshooting

CONDITIONS OF POSITION:

Due to the nature of electrical work, the following conditions are essential for successful performance in this position and selected candidates must fully comply with all of these conditions in order to meet performance requirements.

Successful performance of electrician work and adherence to these conditions will be assessed during the 1-year probationary period that may be served by new appointees.

(1) This is an emergency/mission-critical position. Electricians in this position will be assigned to a rotating shift (8am - 4pm; 4pm - 12am; 12am - 8am) to provide service 24-hours a day, 7-days a week and may be called to work after-hours, on weekends and holidays.

(2) Employees on rotating shifts must stay on duty until properly relieved. May be required to report to or remain at a duty station to perform critical services when employees are generally excused for all or part of a workday in emergency conditions.

(3) May be required to report during irregular hours and travel in hazardous weather conditions.

(4) Electricians in this position are on call 24-hours a day, 7-days a week, year around.

(5) May be required to support other agency buildings to provide critical services to sustain the operational needs of agency buildings.

(6) Telework and Alternate Work Schedules are not authorized for this position; position is not authorized to be filled by outstationing.

(7) Work is performed on ladders, scaffolds and platforms. Work requires frequent standing, stooping, bending, climbing, crouching, kneeling, arm movement and working in tiring uncomfortable positions and confined spaces.

(8) Heavy exertion and physical strength is required at frequent intervals to handle heavy and bulky materials. May need to lift, carry and move equipment, tools and materials up to 50 pounds, unassisted, and occasionally lift or move heavier items with the assistance of lifting devices or other workers.

(9) Work is usually performed indoors where light, heat and ventilation are adequate, however, some work is conducted outside in all types of weather.

(10) Work may be performed under hot or cold conditions, on agency buildings requiring significant electrical and electronic modifications to both equipment and facilities. May be exposed to weather conditions and the hazards of working on and around scaffolds, ladders and confined spaces.

(11) Electricians are subject to injury, such as electric shock, cuts, bruises, falls and burns. May be exposed to high noise levels. May be required to work in areas that are dusty, dirty and confined where ventilation, heating and cooling equipment has been shut off.

(12) Electricians are required to understand and follow mandated safety procedures and wear mandated Personal Protective Equipment, including earplugs, safety glasses, steel-toed boots, gloves, respirator and any other gear required by the Electrician Supervisor.

(13) Electricians may be required to wear a respirator and may be required to shave to ensure a proper fit.

(14) Electricians may be required to wear a uniform while working at the duty station.

This position does not have an educational requirement.
