Duties

This position is located in the United States, Finance Center Chesapeake, VA. You will be responsible for providing accounting support for a variety of complex accounts.

Being a CG civilian makes you a valuable member of the CG team. Typical work assignments include
  • Establishing and maintaining control and subsidiary accounts for most or all types of classes which are inter-related, require extensive supporting schedules and analyses, involve extensive subdivisions with intermediate summary ledgers, and require frequent and varied adjustments, balancing and reconciling.
  • Reviewing, analyzing, classifying, and reconciling transactions, and commitment and obligation documents, traces, researches, and resolves discrepancies, reconciles accounts and prepares trial balances or schedules.
  • Reviewing and analyzing reports/listings, classifies errors, takes corrective action to balance reports/listings, and verifies corrected copy, determines all transactions are properly processed and that total activity agrees with pre-determined control totals.
  • Reviewing unliquidated obligation and back-up files, may liquidate obligations when notified of receive of goods/services, may be required to reconcile accounts and adjust them to reflect outstanding balances.
  • Providing technical guidance to lower graded Accounting Technician or train Accounting Clerks and Technicians in operating procedures, policies, and regulations.

Qualifications

GS-5: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-4 level in the Federal service. Examples of specialized experience may include: Reconciling monthly register printouts with individual accounting transaction listings; initiating, coding and processing accounting adjustments to transfer charges and achieve proper accounting effect on erroneously recorded disbursement documents, progress payments, discounts, etc. in ledgers. OR 4 full years of education above high school level for which high school graduation or the equivalent was a prerequisite; OR a combination of appropriate post high school education and specialized experience that together meet the qualification requirements of the position to be filled.

GS-6: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 level in the Federal service. Examples of specialized experience may include: Analyzing error listings, isolating sources of error, making corrective entries and reprocessing accounting transactions; computing transportation charges and discounts, and total amount for vouchers and initiating adjustments; reconciling listing of accounts payable with general ledger, researching discrepancies and initiating adjustment actions. OR at least 1/2 year of appropriate graduate level education in a field of study directly related to the work of the position to be filled; OR a combination of appropriate specialized experience and appropriate graduate level education that together meet the qualification requirements for the position to be filled.

GS-7: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-6 level in the Federal service. Examples of specialized experience may include: validating, monitoring, and maintaining accounting transactions and records for multiple accounts; reconciling subsidiary ledgers to general ledgers of accounts having a variety of transactions, researching discrepancies and making adjustments; maintaining control and subsidiary accounts and processing transactions for a wide variety of functions. OR One year of appropriate graduate level education in a field of study directly related to the work of the position to be filled; OR a combination of appropriate specialized experience and appropriate graduate level education beyond the first 1/2 year of progressive graduate study that together meet the qualification requirements for the position to be filled.

Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
