MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • One (I) year of specialized experience in using data analytics software to prepare reports; communicating both verbally and in writing to provide customer service; and understanding of Body Worn Cameras and digital evidence management. gained from the public or private sector.

SUMMARY

The Body Worn Camera Coordinator is responsible for overseeing and maintaining inventory, training users, deploying equipment, fulfilling Public Access to Records Policy (PARP) requests for video and redacting video. Assigned responsibilities require a timely and professional response. Under the general supervision of a sworn police officer supervisor, duties are typically performed with some latitude for the use of independent judgment. The incumbent performs work that is of a sensitive and confidential nature and must comply with all applicable policies, procedures, laws, rules and regulations. The Coordinator monitors user documentation and logs and resolves issues associated with Body Worn Cameras (BWC). The incumbent serves as the liaison to sworn members and departmental units for all activities that control and monitor BWCs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Manages and conducts the daily inspection of BWC dock stations and cameras.
  • Manages, assigns, and issues the inventory of all BWC and equipment. Monitors and accounts for all equipment at the district and division level.
  • Resolves logistical issues involving BWCs as well as BWC inquiries from sworn members, including, but not limited to: BWC not charging; BWC not compatible with uniform; BWC interfering with other equipment; the proper securing of BWC on uniforms; the recovery and loss of video footage, or the failure to upload video footage; retrieving incorrect or unassigned BWC from the docking station(s), as well as other issues, problems or complaints.
  • Ensures proper handling of BWC cameras to maintain integrity of all video footage and quality control.
  • Assists MTPD Command Staff and investigating officials with retrieving audit logs from systems and BWC equipment.
  • Assists Command staff and investigating officials with tagging and securing video footage to minimize and avoid deletion of such video footage.
  • Collaborates and coordinates with other BWC Coordinators throughout the Department as needed or requested.
  • Responsible for daily monitoring of the temperature of the BWC storage room, in order to avoid damage to temperature-sensitive BWC equipment. Ensures that the BWC storage room and docking stations are properly secured.
  • Provides weekly summary reports on BWC activity. Captures all activity for each category of events including use of force, vehicular accidents, assaults, etc.
  • Reviews and analyzes summary reports to identify trends and any significant count reduction or increase in the categories of events.
  • Instructs sworn members to activate their BWC upon receiving radio dispatched assignments.
  • Initiates requests to replace damaged cameras, related equipment, and accessories. Follows up with the Property Unit until the new BWCs and equipment are approved and received. Issues new replacement cameras to sworn members accordingly.
  • Assists sworn members with obtaining or replacing BWCs and accessories such as magnets, malfunctioning cords, non-working cameras.
  • Resolves tagging issues of any video footage, including those in pertaining to the video management system.
  • Assists sworn members with obtaining and maintaining access to the video management system.
  • Ensures that any reassignment of a member whether to another District or elsewhere does not interfere with access the member's access to their BWC.
  • Verifies with the Property Division that all transferring or retiring members return all BWC cameras and accessories.
  • Conducts and assists officials with randomly-conducted compliance reviews.
  • Maintains and reports monthly statistics and provides documentation of failure to records/activate as directed, in compliance with protocols and regulations.
