Job Summary Provides underwriting support and expertise to company personnel, agents, and customer(s), related to the issuance of real estate title insurance commitments and policies. Utilizes underwriting standards and guidelines within delegated authority limits, to underwrite the issuance of title insurance and provide guidance in the performance of real estate settlement services.Essential FunctionsExamine title searches or Abstract reports for the preparation of Commitments for Title Insurance.Prepares appropriate write-ups for commitments and policies with extended coverage.Utilizes underwriting standards and guidelines within delegated authority limits, to underwrite the issuance of title insuranceProvides underwriting support, counsel, and authorization to company personnel, and customer(s), related to the issuance of real estate title insurance commitments and policiesAdvises internal and external clients on Virginia specific title and real estate settlement nuances. Utilizes underwriting standards and guidelines within delegated authority limits, to underwrite the issuance of title insuranceInterprets earnest money, escrow and purchase agreements as they relate to closing and prepare all documents required for transactions, including settlement statements.Provides guidance to company personnel in the performance of real estate settlement services.Responsible for communicating information related to underwriting and real estate settlement services from superiors to other employeesProperly prices commitments, endorsements, policies and guarantees using appropriate schedule of fees and chargesKnowledge and Skills/Technology UsedStrong understanding of Virginia real estate and taxing statuesExcellent understanding of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of real estate title and settlement processGeneral knowledge of Federal and State regulations related to real estate title insurance and settlement servicesExcellent understanding of underwriting real estate transactions in Virginia for the issuance of title insurance policiesAbility to collaborate and act decisivelyDetail orientedExcellent listening, verbal and written communication skillsGood organizational skills with the ability to multi-task, prioritize and timely follow upStrong negotiation skillsRequires abstract thinking and creative solutionsAbility to 'think outside the box' and make unique yet sound decisions to resolve complex issuesAbility to build relationships and create rapportTypical EducationLaw Degree requiredAdmitted to practice in state of employmentTypical Range of Experience5+ years title underwriting experienceMust be familiar with real estate lawLicense or CertificationLicensed to practice law, in good standing#LI-AK1#NCSDOTHFirst American invests in its employees' development and well-being, empowers them to provide superior customer service and encourages them to serve the communities where they live and work.
