Westat has an immediate opening for a Senior Implementation Scientist with training and a track record of research in implementation science, as well as experience building multidisciplinary partnerships and collaborations with community-engaged researchers.  The candidate will join the Public Health & Epidemiology Practice and will be responsible for leading a specialty area of research in implementation science and methodology, and for contributing expertise on projects and proposals addressing health disparities and health equity. 

The successful candidate will have demonstrated expertise in advanced research methods including mixed-methods in health services research and evaluation, as well as research of clinical and community-based interventions.  Other relevant experience includes managing complex, multi-site projects, providing training and technical expertise, and supporting business development.  

Job Responsibilities:
•    Conduct and oversee implementation science research, including major input to study design with mixed methods, instrument development, data collection, analysis, and report writing. 
•    Serve as a subject matter expert, including mentoring junior scientists, on the development and execution of implementation science research projects/plans; and evaluation of those plans.
•    Lead the provision of technical assistance, and oversight of the development of training materials and workshops.
•    Lead and work with cross-functional project teams.
•    Demonstrate thought leadership through professional activities including presentations and manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed and technical journals. 
•    Provide operational support for projects, overseeing and monitoring project costs as well as financial performance. 
•    Manage client relationships, delivering strategic council and troubleshooting project-related issues.
•    Lead and participate in business development activities related to implementation science opportunities, including capture and proposal development.  

Basic qualifications
•    Master's Degree in Public Health, Social Sciences or equivalent and 8 years of experience, or a PhD (in public health, health services research, or related field) with at least 3 years of experience. 
•    Demonstrated experience conducting implementation science study trials.
•    Experience in health equity and community engaged research.
•    Experience working with diverse and underserved populations.

Preferred qualifications: 
•    Experience with staff supervision and managing project budgets and schedules.
•    Proven ability to lead multi-stakeholder initiatives and collaborations, including experience working in or collaborating with academic institutions. 
•    Experience with intervention research in the field of maternal and child health, including maternal morbidity and mortality.
•    Expertise in the field of chronic disease (e.g., cancer, diabetes, and/or HIV), infectious disease, cancer, community health, or healthcare services quality improvement.

In this role you will know how to communicate effectively, using generally accepted correspondence and report formats. You must have excellent attention to detail and be comfortable and effective working on multiple, complex tasks in close coordination with others under limited direction and have strong interpersonal and writing skills.
