Overview

Older Adults Technology Services from AARP (OATS) advocates for technology inclusion for the 50-plus, providing digital literacy training and programming to older adults. With nearly two decades of experience and insights on how older people interact with technology as well as its flagship programs like Senior Planet, OATS uses its resources to create world-class programs that form the basis for systems change.

The Financial Specialist supports the business unit or the department financial budgeting process. Reconciles monthly bills, processes payments, and balances accounts. Provides financial budgeting support for a business unit or department. Administers the purchase card program to facilitate the purchase of small dollar procurement actions. 

Responsibilities

  • Supports a business unit by regularly providing administrative-level support on a variety of projects, programs, and initiatives that are typically division-wide or enterprise-wide. Analyzes and develops reports and provides recommendations. Tracks budgets and project/program activities.
  • Processes and prepares accounting entries. Reviews and audits financial statements and reports. Ensures all calculations and data entries are correct. Reconciles general ledger accounts for discrepancies and identifies errors for internal clients.
  • Reconciles monthly bills, processes payments and balances accounts. Interacts with management and business liaisons to develop solutions to billing problems and tests the accuracy of system modifications designed to accommodate these solutions. Acts as a liaison with leadership for monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements.
  • Reviews and processes expense reports and/or invoices in a timely manner and ensures they contain the required documentation/approval. Processes and verifies coding of expenses. Performs invoice analysis to identify errors, discrepancies, and opportunities for cost savings. 
  • Acquires equipment, services, supplies and/or materials for the organization. Conducts vendor reviews and negotiates prices and terms. Develops and implements policies and procedures for the operation of purchasing activities.
  • Prepares monthly invoices for local and state government funders. Reconciles monthly bills processes payments and balances accounts. 
  • Collaborates with the organization's accounting staff to prepare the necessary documentation to support the annual audit, 990 and other mandatory reporting requirements.  
  • Leads quarterly forecasting and annual multiyear financial planning exercises. Leads monthly close process with the Controller.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree and 3+ years of related professional and progressive experience in accounting, financial planning, reporting, analysis.
  • Strong written and oral presentation skills; ability to tell the story behind the numbers.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills facilitate management of team members and support senior leadership in efficiently making business decisions.
  • High level of accountability, accuracy and efficiency, especially while handling multiple tasks.
  • Proficient in Excel, Word, and Adobe.
  • Experience with Peoplesoft preferred.

Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA)

AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as telecommuting workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work and telecommuting can only be done within the United States and its territories.

Compensation and Benefits

AARP offers a competitive compensation and benefits package including a 401(k); 100% company-funded pension plan; health, dental, and vision plans; life insurance; paid time off to include company and individual holidays, vacation, sick, caregiving, and parental leave; performance-based and peer-based recognition; tuition reimbursement; among others.

Salary Range: Minimum $63,000- Maximum $73,500
