Duties

  • Serves as a Data Scientist within the Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army (Procurement).
  • Responsible for planning, conducting, and presenting complex contracting and financial systems analyses in support of the Army Contracting Enterprise (ACE)
  • Initiates and conducts analytic studies involving broad and varied subject matters in the areas of Army contracting and procurement.
  • Exercises technical responsibility for publishing reports relating to specific analysis accomplishment and for the exhaustive interpretation of these results.
  • Maintains technical proficiency and applies new methods relating to data science, systems analysis, and operations research with particular emphasis on areas relevant to assigned responsibilities.
  • Presents briefings to Army senior leadership summarizing significant results of completed studies.

  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance for the duration of employment.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a two year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This is an Army Acquisition, Logistics and Technology Workforce position.
  • Selectees must meet position requirements for certification at Level Practitioner in the Acquisition Career Field Engineering and Technical Management within 60 months of entrance on duty.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.
  • This position requires submission of Financial Disclosure Statement, OGE-450, upon entering the position and annually thereafter.

Basic Requirement for Data Scientist:

Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position or bachelor's degree (or higher degree) with 30 semester hours in a combination of Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes ) Formulates analytical/mathematical procedures to solve operational data problems; 2) Plans and conducts, as project lead or member of a study team, relevant research, and analytical studies of Army problems to support critical operational problems and/or decisions; AND 3) Creating and presenting analytical reports for senior leadership. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (NH-02/GS-11).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
