Fairfax County’s Wastewater Management Program is a nationally recognized Utility of the Future and its wastewater treatment plant, the 67 million gallon per day Noman M. Cole Pollution Control Plant, is a multiple year NACWA Platinum Award winning facility. Under the supervision of the HVAC supervisor, acts as a lead electrical and HVAC worker. Participates and coordinates in the installation, modification, corrective, and preventive maintenance of the work performed by the HVAC tech II worker.

Performs other electrical work as requested. Maintains, repairs, and monitors highly complex building automated heating ventilation air conditioning systems. Performs design layouts & sizing of heating ventilation air conditioning systems. In the absence of the supervisor oversees the daily operation of the electrical section. Performs a variety of highly skilled tasks in the maintenance of 3-phase low and medium voltage; up to 4160 volts for industrial electrical equipment, including circuits, and other related electrical equipment in a 67 MGD wastewater treatment plant.

Performs preventive/corrective maintenance, 24/7 to maintain continuous operation of electrical equipment. Guides & oversees the work of industrial electricians I & II. Provides daily input to industrial electrician supervisor regarding the performance of electricians I & II. Identifies required parts from equipment diagram or parts lists and requisitions necessary parts to restock, repair, or replace all electrical equipment throughout the plant.

Assist in reviewing as-built drawings for identification and isolation of lines, equipment, or processes. Utilizes computer and software to maintain work orders, requisition parts, and online O&M manual for preventive and corrective maintenance, online time and attendance, training, and outlook. Installs and programs variable frequency drives. Performs work on systems with hazardous chemicals that are acidic, highly corrosive, heat-producing, and potentially explosive. Performs work in confined spaces, hazardous areas requiring respiratory protection and personal protective gear, and slippery and wet conditions. Responsible for understanding and complying with regulatory requirements, the wastewater management program's environmental policy, agency guidelines, safety requirements, and emergency response procedures. Prevents and mitigates any environmental impact associated with electrical maintenance, accidents, or emergencies. Attends required electrical training to ensure work performed complies with the regulatory requirements and national electric code.

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, training, and experience equivalent to graduation from high school, or a GED issued by a state department of education or equivalent and six years of experience as an industrial electrician.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
  • A valid driver's license.
  • A valid Commonwealth of Virginia Master Electrician's license.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a pre-employment physical and annual thereafter, a criminal background check, and a driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.

Subject to 24 hour call back and must, therefore, be able to work emergency overtime. Subject to working in adverse weather conditions and may be exposed to raw waste or environments generating methane gas. Ability to distinguish different color wiring.

All newly hired employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (two weeks after the last required dose) as a condition of employment or obtain approval of a medical or religious exemption prior to their start date. Proof of an exemption or vaccination status will be required during the pre-employment onboarding process. New employees who obtain an exemption from the vaccine mandate for medical or sincerely held religious beliefs may be subject to a weekly testing requirement. Vaccinated employees and employees with a medical or religious exemption will complete the attestation online on their first day of employment or shortly thereafter.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Four years of experience in the industrial electrical field and a minimum of two years of experience as lead industrial electrician.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Capable of climbing ladders and steps. Capable of lifting 50 pounds. Capable of adequate color perception working conditions may include inclement weather, as well as being exposed to hazardous. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
