Full Time

  • You will install, maintain, troubleshoot and repair commercial and industrial air conditioning and refrigeration systems that provide a variety of functions such as heating, cooling, humidifying, dehumidifying, circulating and filtering.
  • You will perform programming, maintenance, analysis, modification, installation, repair, and replacement of Direct Digital Controls (DDC) equipment.
  • You will operate PC computer terminals, laptop computers, interface devices, handheld microprocessors, local area network, front-end software and control devices.

  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position requires mandatory CPR certification.
  • Incumbent may be required to serve on-call duty on a rotational basis. When on-call, the incumbent is required to carry a duty cell phone and duty pager and must remain available to respond on site to after-hour emergencies within two hours.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • NAVFAC MIDLANT is a regionalized command. The incumbent serving in this position may at any time be reassigned to a similar position at any site or workstation within the commuting area as a condition of employment.
  • This is a emergency response position. In the event of an emergency, the incumbent may be required to report to work during a non-duty/duty hours and during emergency situations, may be assigned duties other than those in the position description.
  • The incumbent may be required to obtain Continuous Emissions Monitoring System (CEMS) certification from a State Environmental Agency if required by the state.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final Secret security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver`s license.

1. Installing, maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing a wide variety of air conditioning and refrigeration systems, such as circulating air and chilled water air conditioning systems, high medium and low temperature refrigeration systems, and total environmental control systems.
2. Using a variety of software (such as HVAC Pro (Johnson Controls), Siemens Controls Systems, Automated Logic Systems, or other Direct Digital Controls (DDC) Manufacturer programs) to maintain DDC equipment.
3. Evaluating system operations to detect deficiencies, troubleshoot causes and make needed adjustments and repairs.
4. Using control related computer functions and peripherals (including analong and digital electronics and microprocessor fundamentals) to support a variety of analog and binary electronic and pneumatic devices.
5. Reading blueprints, schematics, engineering drawings, design specifications and program code to support existing or newly constructed HVAC systems.

This announcement uses the Certain Personnel of the DoD direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed to meet mission requirements.

Incumbent must be able to distinguish colors and shades of colors.

Incumbent frequently performs moderately heavy lifting, pulling, and carrying of equipment and material weighing up to 40 pounds.

This position requires exposure to high noise levels.
