*Position Overview*The Office of Social Emotional Academic Development works with the Chancellor to ensure coherence in the educational experience for our students, families, and schools. Our goal is to initiate change and lead DC Public Schools into the highest performing school district in the nation. We are currently in the process of creating our next strategic plan. After engaging with over 3,000 internal and external stakeholders to help shape the future of DCPS, our draft strategic priorities include:* Promote Equity: Define, understand, and promote equity to close achievement gaps and interrupt institutional bias.* Empower Our People: Recruit, develop, and retain a talented, caring, and diverse team.* Educate the Whole Child: Provide rigorous, joyful and inclusive academic and social emotional experiences for all students.* Ensure Excellent Schools: Increase the number of high quality schools across the district by defining blended autonomies for schools and creating opportunities for innovation.* Engage Families: Deepen partnerships with families and community.The Office of Family and Public Engagement (OFPE) is responsible for DCPS' work to engage parents, families, and the community in our students' learning, the improvement of our schools, and DCPS' planning and decision making. Our mission is to accelerate the rate of achievement in DC Public Schools by investing families and the greater DC community in student and school success. Our three core areas of work are: (1) community engagement, (2) school partnerships, and (3) family engagement. All of our work is designed to impact and improve student achievement at the individual student, school or district level.The Community Engagement Team plans and executes the department's strategies to ensure consistent district level and targeted school/community engagement on DCPS priorities and initiatives. Additionally, this team develops and maintains the mechanisms that support information gathering and integration into district goals, and authentic relationship building with DCPS stakeholders. Through the work of the Community Engagement Team, we will increase confidence in DCPS by committing to consistently listening to and consulting our stakeholders, using their feedback to inform the work of DCPS and communicating back how their feedback was used.The Coordinator, Public Events and Engagement will help to drive the implementation of a district-wide community engagement and events strategy for the Office of Family and Public Engagement and other critical teams within DCPS Central Office.The Coordinator, Public Events and Engagement will report to the Deputy Chief, Community Engagement.*Essential Duties and Responsibilities*_The below statements are intended to describe the general nature and scope of work being performed by this position. This is not a complete listing of all responsibilities, duties, and/or skills required. Other duties may be assigned._* Plans public meetings for audiences ranging from 25 to 300+ attendees to engage the community on district-level priorities and initiatives in DCPS, such as school budgets, school operations, and general school updates, among other topics.* Coordinates all event planning logistics for these meetings, including selecting event sites, marketing events, tracking RSVP lists, recruiting and managing event volunteers, overseeing the event budget, and being the on-site point of contact, among other tasks.* Helps develop strategies for collecting feedback on events and engagements.* Uses attendance data and feedback to evaluate success of events; and makes recommendations for continuous improvement.* Leads planning and execution for high-visibility, Chancellor-level events, including the DCPS Block Party.* Works closely with the Enrollment Team, Community Action Team, and others to support school-level events.* Works with the School Partnerships Division to coordinate District-level partnership events, like DCPS Night at the Nationals.* Supports and collaborates with the Coordinator of Community Engagement on public events, such as Chancellor's Community Forums, Chancellor's Parent Cabinet Meetings, and Chancellor's Living Room events.* Interacts with and responds effectively to urgent requests from multiple internal and external DCPS stakeholders.* Drafts, edits, and distributes communications to community stakeholders and key staff.* Orders and tracks procurement for event supplies and manages relationships with event vendors.*Qualifications** Bachelor's degree and two to four years of related work experience.* Master's degree preferred.* Experience in project management.* Track record of collaborating with multiple internal and external stakeholders to plan and produce high-quality events.* Strong writing, editing, and page layout skills.* Demonstrated commitment to refining and implementing organizational systems for a team.* Highly organized and detailed-oriented.* Proficient in Microsoft Excel and project management tools.* Previous exposure to or experience in the education sector a plus.* DC residents preferred.* Bilingual in Spanish strongly preferred.* Experience in QuickBase (or similar system) strongly preferred.*DCPS Values** *STUDENTS FIRST*: We recognize students as whole children and put their needs first in everything we do.* *COURAGE*: We have the audacity to learn from our successes and failures, to try new things, and to lead the nation as a proof point of PK-12 success.* *EQUITY*: We work proactively to eliminate opportunity gaps by interrupting institutional bias and investing in effective strategies to ensure every student succeeds.* *EXCELLENCE*: We work with integrity and hold ourselves accountable for exemplary outcomes, service, and interactions.* *TEAMWORK*: We recognize that our greatest asset is our collective vision and ability to work collaboratively and authentically.* *JOY*: We enjoy our collective work and will enthusiastically celebrate our success and each other.Job Type: Full-timePay: $73,643.00 - $83,094.00 per yearBenefits:* 401(k)* 401(k) matching* Dental insurance* Employee discount* Flexible schedule* Flexible spending account* Health insurance* Health savings account* Life insurance* Paid time off* Parental leave* Retirement plan* Vision insuranceSchedule:* Monday to FridayAbility to commute/relocate:* Washington, DC 20529: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)Work Location: Hybrid remote in Washington, DC 20529
