*Location: * Remote, United States - Eastern or Central time zones preferred*Position Overview: *The Center for Policing Equity (CPE) is seeking a skilled Payroll and Compliance Administrator to meet the needs of our growing organization. Under the day-to-day supervision of the HR Manager, the Payroll and Compliance Administrator will aid CPE in its efforts to support a fully remote and geographically dispersed employee base. The ideal candidate will have an unwavering passion for racial justice.The person in this role should have some knowledge of and experience with multi-state payroll, employer taxes and an ability to build, iterate and automate processes to ensure compliance with a collaborative and geographically dispersed organization. This position requires the ability to work independently, with speed, attention to detail, and thoroughness.This role is essential to ensuring employer compliance in all US states where employees reside. As a remote organization, this function is critical to ensuring long term compliance and organizational health. This individual will ensure compliance by registering the company as a business/employer, maintaining various accounts for each state (UI, DOR, DOL), filing reports and facilitating required payments. They will also be responsible for contacting states and municipalities to resolve issues.This is a permanent full-time exempt position.*Responsibilities: ** Payroll preparation and processing* Processes payroll bi-weekly including wage and overtime payments, calculations and recording of payroll deductions. Reviews payroll before finalizing to ensure accuracy.* Verifies timekeeping records, maintains time and attendance records using the electronic time management system.* Resolve payroll discrepancies and propose adjustment solutions.* Processes special transactions such as off cycle payments, retroactive pay, garnishments, and other statutory deductions required by company leadership or state law.* Verify that W-2 employees are added to payroll following a hire date and that terminated employees are removed from in a timely manner.* Reporting and Documentation* Generates, prepares and reconciles payroll reports, as needed.* Audit employee records in HRIS, in partnership with HR team members and Finance, to ensure they are accurate and up-to-date.* Create and maintain written documentation of payroll processes and procedures.* Teamwork and Collaboration* Serve as a liaison between the Talent + Culture (HR) and Finance teams.* Respond to employee inquiries related to payroll, direct deposit, earnings and deductions.* Serve as liaison between internal stakeholders and external employer tax partners, vendors or state/local agencies* Applies professional auditing standards, methods, and procedures to review, explain and interpret regulatory reporting requirements* Secures and/or completes quarterly unemployment wage and tax reports; assesses tax, interest, and penalties not previously reported or paid to an Agency* Secures and/or completes forms required to establish and/or void employer accounts* Validating state unemployment tax rates, including impacts from transfers of experience* Identifies gaps and shortcomings, and determines necessary workarounds*Qualifications: ** 4 -5 years of experience in payroll required* Experience with payroll systems (Bamboo TRAXPayroll preferred)* Knowledge of payroll best practices, processes and procedures* Able to be prompt, accurate, and cordial in assisting employees with questions* Advanced Excel/Google Sheets proficiency and ability to work with large datasets* Ability to manage confidential information* Experience in federal, state, and local labor laws, payroll tax requirements, payroll regulations and industry changes that affect payroll operations* Experience working in a remote environment is preferred* BachelorA$ cents A cents ' not A cents " cents s degree required* Certification preferred (Certified Payroll Professional - CPP or Fundamental Payroll Certification - FPC)*Compensation: *Range: $63,600 - $88,500 USD.
