Job Description:

What You'll Get to Do:

Contractor will perform three primary tasks: management of the Social Security Appeal docket, management of cases brought against the government under 28 U.S.C. § 2410, and litigation support.

1. Social Security Appeals: The Contractor will manage Social Security Appeals from initiation to closing. This includes, , receiving all new Social Security Appeals, logging them, opening a file for each case, and reporting them to the regional Social Security Office overseeing our Social Security cases. It also includes, calendaring answer deadlines, ensuring we timely receive draft answers and Social Security administrative transcripts from the regional SSA office, drafting answers, and timely filing answers and the administrative transcript on the docket. It further includes, monitoring the docket, timely closing resolved cases, and submitting requests for attorney's fees or costs to the agency or the Treasury, respectively. In addition, the Contractor will perform any other duties required to properly manage the Social Security Appeals docket and any other duties requested by the regional SSA office to support our SSA docket, such as drafting and filing motions for extensions or remand and other miscellaneous filings.

2. Cases Under 28 U.S.C. § 2410: The Contractor will manage cases brought against the United States under 28 U.S.C. § 2410 from initiation to closing. This includes, receiving all new § 2410 cases, logging them, opening a file for each case, and reporting them to the appropriate federal agency. This also includes calendaring answer or removal deadlines, ensuring we timely receive responses from the relevant federal agency, timely drafting notices of removal, answers, stipulations preserving the government's interest, motions, and other appropriate pleadings. It further includes performing research using public and non-public databases to determine the agency's interest, the value of real estate or other property, and the assets or income of individuals and corporations involved in each case, logging and organizing this information, and reporting it to the appropriate USAO staff member. In addition, it includes drafting memoranda regarding the USAO's conclusions and actions in each case, as well as timely closing each resolved matter.

3. Litigation Support: The Contractor will perform a variety of tasks to assist AUSAs litigating civil cases for the U.S. Attorney's Office. These tasks include, receiving and logging mail and documents received in civil discovery, maintaining and organizing case files, drafting routine correspondence, creating and managing exhibits for use at depositions, trials, and in support of motions, assisting with travel scheduling, drafting subpoenas, organizing and reporting expenses, engaging in routine conversations with opposing counsel and third parties regarding scheduling, discovery, trial, and expenses, assisting AUSAs with drafting pleadings by, for instance, completing tables of contents, tables of authorities, and indices of exhibits, filing pleadings on the docket, and working with AUSAs and other civil support staff to ensure that the Office's civil litigation docket is properly managed.

More About the Role:

In addition to performing functions of Document Management Technician, as described below, performs moderately complex litigation support tasks, including, for example, detailed review and analysis of case materials in a broad range of subject matters, such as financial records, health care materials, and other litigation files; detailed indexing of case files; drafting procedures for accomplishing litigation support assignments; document acquisition related tasks; screening for privilege documents; and conducting database searches. Proofreads and edits deliverable products. Sometimes serves as "team leader" for larger group of Document Management Technicians and clerical support staff. Often works with minimal supervision. Reports to Task Supervisor or Project Supervisor.

You'll Bring These Qualifications:
  • Three years of experience on major litigation support projects or undergraduate degree.
  • Certain assignments may require experience or substantial undergraduate coursework in, for example, finance/accounting, health care, or substantial experience in the legal environment or in information technology.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in a team environment.
  • Must have excellent writing skills and oral communication capabilities.
  • Requires hands-on familiarity with the Government's office and network environment, including but not limited to, data processing environments, including office automation networks, PC-based databases and other applications, internet and server-based databases and other applications, such as Oracle, Relativity or other document review platform, Trial Director, etc.
  • Should be a knowledgeable user of the Government's office and network environment, including but not limited to, word processing, spreadsheet, imaging, and hardware systems.
  • Familiarity with ESI tools and knowledge of eDiscovery procedures and resources preferred.
