What You'll Get to Do

The DHS CDM Program is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to support the United States Coast Guard (USCG) in the design, engineering, and sustainment of Microsoft Azure enterprise solutions. The DHS CDM Program mission is to safeguard and secure cyberspace in an environment where the threat of cyber-attack is continuously growing and evolving. As a member of the CDM Program, you will provide the USCG with cutting-edge, secure, resilient cloud solutions to enable mission objectives.
  • Currently, this is a full-time remote position (work from home). Must reside within the United States. Meetings are virtual (with and without a camera).
  • Serve as a senior technical expert, creating and maintaining Azure based enterprise solutions for the USCG; mentor junior employees, providing technical cross-training/coaching to convey concepts and to provide guidance as needed.
  • Work independently or on very small teams to integrate systems and solutions, triage issues, and prioritize tasks.

  • Work with USCG stakeholders to identify requirements, implement, and continuously improve Azure cloud-based solutions
  • Operate and maintain Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM), Microsoft Intune, and Microsoft Azure Cloud Management Gateway (CMG)
  • Design and configure Azure components in accordance with DoD security requirements, including applicable STIGs, the DoD Cloud Computing SRG, and DoD Secure Cloud Computing Architecture (SCCA) functional requirements
  • Communicate with executive leadership, present, answer questions, proactively resolve issues. Effectively and professionally communicate with both technical and non-technical colleagues and customers at all levels of seniority.
  • Perform vulnerability remediation, patching and software/firmware upgrades in accordance with USCG and DoD requirements
  • Coordinate engineering change requests via the USCG change approval process including a description of the change, test results, risks, and rollback plans, as needed
  • Lead diagnosing and troubleshooting efforts to resolve complex technical issues
  • Collaborate with internal teams and USCG stakeholders to drive the development of new cloud engineering approaches and opportunities
  • Provide SME input into technical documentation such as the System Design Document (SDD), Configuration Management Plan, Contingency Plan, Concept of Operations (CONOPS), and other ATO documentation
  • Leverage PowerShell and Azure Automation to automate routine activities, such as configuration management, and system maintenance
  • Perform root cause analysis for production deployment errors and communicate with both technical and non-technical audiences


You'll Bring These Qualifications
  • Cleared for Secret work
  • DoD Approved 8570 Baseline Certification: IAT Level II
  • Have a favorable adjudicated Tier 1 background investigation, requiring completion of an SF-85 submitted to DCMS SECCEN through the COR.
  • 5+ years of experience supporting Microsoft products and services in a large enterprise (>50K employees and endpoints)
  • 10+ years' experience with customer interactions, including presenting, answering questions, proactively resolving issues
  • 7+ years' experience with in-depth systems administration in Microsoft environments
  • 7+ years' experience integrating and troubleshooting systems in Microsoft environments
  • 7+ years' experience with securing systems by following STIGs/SRGs, best practices, and government/compliance requirements (such as NIST 800-53, NIST 800-171, FISMA, FEDRAMP), and negotiating/working-with IA personnel to arrive at sensible and effective solutions
  • 3+ years' experience with Microsoft Azure
  • 5+ years' experience with Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM), Microsoft Intune, and Microsoft Azure Cloud Management Gateway (CMG)
  • 3+ years' experience supporting the SELC process, including producing documentation and reviewing with customers for approval.


These Qualifications Would Be Nice to Have
  • Technical degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related subject area
  • Relevant Technical and/or Security Certifications (e.g., CISSP, Microsoft AZ-900, Microsoft SC-900, CCSP, CCNA, etc.)
  • Some experience (1+ years') with any or all of these products or technologies: WSUS, SCCM, PowerShell, Azure Automation, GIT
  • 5+ years' system admin level understanding of Windows server/ADFS environments
  • 5+ years' experience integrating, securing, and understanding the following Microsoft platform services (both in Windows OS and in Azure Cloud): Active Directory Domain Services (ADDS), Active Directory Federated Services (ADFS), Windows AD-integrated PKI, Azure Log Analytics, Microsoft Sentinel, Azure Monitor, Microsoft Defender, Azure Firewall, Azure Virtual Desktop.
  • Experience with SAML
  • Experience and knowledge with PKI

Pay Range: The proposed salary range for this position is $93,300-$200,500. There are a host of factors that can influence final salary including, but not limited to, Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, geographic location, education, and certifications.
