Equipment Operator II (2)
Overview
An Equipment Operator II operates one or more types of heavy automotive equipment. An employee in this class exercises considerable skill in manipulating heavy motor equipment while paying constant attention to safety of operation in order to prevent accidents. Assignments are outlined in detail by supervisors. Standard procedures are followed and work is inspected periodically for safety and economy of operation. This class differs that of Equipment Operator I in that it requires a higher degree of skill and greater consequence of error in the form of damage to more expensive equipment. An incumbent in this class leads the work of Laborers and Refuse Collectors.

Minimum & Additional Requirements
To qualify for this position, all candidates must process a High School Diploma or GED or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities; at least two (2) years of experience driving related equipment in the field of Public Works; ability to demonstrate supervisory skills; must possess a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) issued by the state of residence with all applicable endorsements; thorough knowledge of traffic safety rules and regulations; must be able to read and comprehend technical materials and evaluate wok orders; must have the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment, and the physical ability to perform job tasks under all types of weather conditions.

- Performs all assigned maintenance tasks associated with the repair and resurfacing of City roadways including filling potholes, making street cuts using asphalts saws, using tampers and hot asphalt.
- Operates small machinery/hand tools (i.e. concrete cutting saw, and tamper), prepares forms and performs concrete finishing work
- Operation of gasoline, diesel, and electric powered equipment such as walk-behind rollers, jack hammer/air compressor, trenchers, pumps, oxy-acetylene torch, vibratory compactors, chain saw, chipper/stump grinder, concrete/asphalt saws, circular saw, generator, portable cement mixer, hand tools, and other similar equipment.
- Operates equipment such as City vehicle, dump trucks, flatbed trucks, skid steer loaders, water truck, power screen, tack truck, tractor trailer, small roadway materials reclaimer, paving equipment, tractors, pavement rollers and other related equipment.
- Performs heavy manual labor such as digging, lifting, placement of various pipes (i.e. reinforced concrete pipes and plastic poly pipe), and installation of swale liner.
- Prepares work area for sod installation and/or performs BMP maintenance
- Performs all assigned maintenance tasks associated with the repair and resurfacing of City roadways including filling potholes, making street cuts using asphalts saws, using tampers and hot asphalt.
- Hauls a variety of material to/from the job site to facilitate completion of assigned projects.
- Performs preventative maintenance on several pieces of equipment.
- May work under the direction of a Crew Leader, other Supervisor and/or Manager from the Public Works Department.
- May be required to work hours other than the standard day shift should an emergency arise.
- Other duties as may be assigned.
