The AAG/A oversees the Justice Management Division (JMD), including a staff of more than 800, and directly reports to the Deputy Attorney General. In this capacity, the AAG/A shapes Department-wide policy for budget and financial management, program evaluation, auditing, human capital management and training, ethics, procurement, information technology management, records management, facilities management and security, and provides direct administrative support services to the Offices, Boards, and Divisions of the Department. Key duties include:
  • In partnership with senior Department leadership, develop and execute a strategic vision for the Department's management, operational, and administrative functions. Establish clear metrics and benchmarks for measuring the successful implementation of short-term and long-term goals associated with this strategic vision.
  • Ensure the prompt delivery of high-quality, cost-effective operational and administrative services to the Department's Offices, Boards, and Divisions and senior leadership. Supervise the development and execution of Department policies to improve management processes, increase efficiency, strengthen performance, and reduce unnecessary expenses. Build a team of leaders and managers within JMD--operating under the AAG/A's supervision--to meet the Department's day-to-day operational needs.
  • Advise the Attorney General and Deputy Attorney General on process and policy related to the Department's administration and management. Ensure the proper allocation of Department resources to carry out the key priorities of senior leaders while upholding the Department's core mission.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Management and Budget, the Office of Personnel Management, federal administrative councils, and other governmental agencies to advocate for the Department and shape federal-wide management and administrative policies. In coordination with the Department's Office of Legislative Affairs, works closely with Congress to advance the Department's interests, including the budget and appropriations process.
  • Represent the Department, including the Attorney General and Deputy Attorney General, at interagency meetings and conferences pertaining to administrative matters with full authority to commit Departmental resources. Communicate with high-ranking officials of other Federal agencies and organizations on behalf of the Department.

  • You must be a United States Citizen or National.
  • Selective Service registration is required for males born on, or after, December 31st, 1959. Those not registered should have an approved exemption on file.
  • You will be required to complete a pre-employment security investigation and background check for the security level designated for this position.
  • You will be required to undergo a drug screening and obtain favorable results prior to being appointed.
  • You may be subject to a one-year probationary period effective from the date in which you are appointed.
  • This position requires you to submit a Public Financial Disclosure Report (OGE 278) upon entry, and annually thereafter in accordance with DOJ and Federal ethics guidelines.

    Your application must emphasize your level of responsibilities, the scope and complexity of the programs managed, and your program accomplishments, including the results of your actions. You will be evaluated to determine if you meet the minimum qualifications required of the position and on the extent your application demonstrates that you possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities required of the Assistant Attorney General for Administration. Please provide concrete examples of your experience that demonstrate the complexity of the knowledge you possess.

    Your application must address the Mandatory Technical Qualifications (MTQs) as separate narrative statements not to exceed 2 pages per MTQ. Applications without separate narrative statements will not be considered.

    MTQ 1: Demonstrated knowledge and leadership in developing, implementing, and evaluating global financial and budgetary operations, policy, systems, and procedures for a complex/major financial organization such as those at a Cabinet level Agency or like organization.

    MTQ 2: Demonstrated experience in and broad knowledge of administrative operations of a major component in a Cabinet agency or like organization in the areas of program evaluation, auditing, human capital management and training, ethics, procurement, records management, information technology, and facilities management and security.

    Additionally, your demonstrated leadership ability and evidence of the Executive Core Qualifications (ECQs) must be addressed as separate narrative statements not to exceed ten (10) pages. Applications without separate narrative statements will not be considered.

    Note: Current career SES members, former career SES members with reinstatement eligibility, and SES Candidate Development Program graduates who have been certified by OPM do NOT need to address the ECQs.

    ECQ 1: LEADING CHANGE. This core qualification involves the ability to bring about strategic change, both within and outside the organization, to meet organizational goals. Inherent to this ECQ is the ability to establish an organizational vision and to implement it in a continuously changing environment.

    ECQ 3: RESULTS DRIVEN. This core qualification involves the ability to meet organizational goals. Inherent to this ECQ is the ability to make decisions that produce high-quality results by applying technical knowledge, analyzing problems, and calculating risks.

    ECQ 4: BUSINESS ACUMEN. This core qualification involves the ability to manage human, financial, and information resources strategically.

    ECQ 5: BUILDING COALITIONS. This core qualification involves the ability to build coalitions internally and with other Federal agencies, State and local governments, nonprofit and private sector organizations, foreign governments, or international organizations to achieve common goals.
