The Land Survey Branch, in Capital Facilities, Fairfax County is seeking a Senior Survey Analyst Coordinator to perform the following duties:
  • Performs advanced survey technician duties to manage multiple project assignments including research, records analysis, survey data analysis, plat and plan prep in AutoCAD and other specialty programs such as SmartDRAFT, Trimble Business Center, GIS, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Manages and completes various types of land surveys that includes writing detailed information and depicting graphic exhibits of design, geodetic, construction, land boundary, route, property, and as-built surveys.
  • This position requires the ability to work independently and be an effective communicator to perform the high demanding job tasks of the position and the ability to work with and lead others without formal authority. May work in field or office for extended periods.

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of land surveying and GPS surveying;
  • Knowledge of County, State and Federal laws, codes, and regulations pertaining to surveying;
  • Knowledge of County, State and Federal laws pertaining to land rights;
  • Excellent knowledge of Survey Software including AutoCAD & Trimble, (and/or current County platform), Microsoft Office Suite, and Hardware (PCs and Plotters), and the GIS system;
  • Thorough knowledge of the methods and equipment used in surveying;
  • Basic knowledge of the principles of civil engineering specifically relating to hydrology and construction processes;
  • Ability to prepare accurate drawings and maps;
  • Ability to make accurate computations and neat, accurate field notes;
  • Ability to program and/or use data processing equipment;
  • Ability to collect, compile, and interpret research data;
  • Ability to apply knowledge of regulations, field data, and plan and profile data to computations and to communicate findings both to office and field personnel;
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing and to present highly technical data in a visual format to a non-technical audience;
  • Ability to prepare technical reports and to present findings in a clear and concise format.


Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to: High school graduation or a GED issued by a state department of education; plus five years of survey work, including one year in work equivalent to the Survey Party Chief level.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Driver's License.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check and driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.

All newly hired employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (two weeks after the last required dose) as a condition of employment or obtain approval of a medical or religious exemption prior to their start date. Proof of an exemption or vaccination status will be required during the pre-employment onboarding process. New employees who obtain an exemption from the vaccine mandate for medical or sincerely held religious beliefs may be subject to a weekly testing requirement. Vaccinated employees and employees with a medical or religious exemption will complete the attestation online on their first day of employment or shortly thereafter.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Graduation from Virginia Land Survey Apprenticeship and/or BS in Land Surveying or related discipline.
  2. Four years of experience in SmartDRAFT, Trimble Business Center, Corpscon, GIS, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  3. Three years of experience performing complex property research and preparation of deed calculations in AutoCAD.
  4. Three years of experience performing advance mathematics such as calculus, [insert here]
  5. Three years of experience performing survey technician duties which includes the management of multiple projects such as records analysis, survey data analysis, plat and plan prep in AutoCAD and other specialty programs such as SmartDRAFT, Trimble Business Center, GIS, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  6. Basic knowledge of the Virginia Administrative Code relating to land surveying.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to work at computer workstations with visual acuity for extended periods is required.
Occasional (and/or extended) field survey may be necessary. Therefore, must be able to physically negotiate rough terrain and typical construction sites to perform field inspections at project construction sites or potential sites for future facilities. This includes: the ability to endure variable and extreme weather conditions, the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds over uneven natural terrain and over rough project sites including traversing up and down steep slopes, and the ability to perform physical labor. Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time. Ability to read, understand, and produce written and typed documents proficiently. Ability to use computers/computer software for communication, report generation, electronic file-keeping, project metrics analysis, and project tracking purposes. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
