Principal Associate, Political Advocacy and PAC Administration Coordinator

As a Principal Associate/Process Manager at Capital One, you can achieve results you never thought possible by leading critical and strategic business processes. This individual will be an integral member of Capital One's Government and Policy Affairs Group (GPAG) and manage several operational of Capital One's political work, including day-to-day operation of the Capital One Political Action Committee (Capital One PAC) and political contributions, clearinghouse for all federal and state political compliance functions, coordinating associate communications, internal and external event management as well as special projects as assigned.

Responsibilities Include:
  • Capital One PAC and Political Expenditures:
    • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the company's political expenditures. These duties include but are not limited to budgeting, reconciling disbursements and receipts, and PAC donor management and engagement.
    • Prepare and submit disbursements for campaign committees as approved by the Political Contributions Committee.
    • Create reports for Capital One Board, as well as mid-year and annual reports for Capital One public reporting.
    • Oversee weekly Political Contributions meeting to include presenting disbursement plans, fundraising updates and providing detailed reporting to executive leadership.
    • Oversee fundraising, scheduling, and calendars for a $1.5 million per cycle PAC; coordinates a large volume of PAC and political check requests, in accordance with policies, procedures and internal controls.
    • Lead planning and oversight of high-level political fundraising events, engaging with fundraisers and political campaign teams at federal and state levels.
    • Lead development of and strategy for political contribution budgets, and helps ensure that operations are managed within budget.
    • Develops recommended strategic plan for the lobbying team of PAC disbursements and allocations for PAC giving for the federal team.
    • Manage annual PAC solicitation campaigns for associates and Capital One Board members; Works towards achieving goals for growth of the Capital One PAC.


  • Compliance:
    • Ensure compliance with all federal and state laws that govern political contributions and lobbying disclosure requirements.
    • Ensure all PAC requests are in compliance with federal law and Federal Election Commission (FEC) guidelines.
    • Responsible for federal Lobbying and Disclosure Act reports, as well as required state filings and disclosures, so that the company has timely and accurate filings.


  • Political Advocacy:
    • Advance and support the role of the Government and Policy Affairs Group and the importance of public policy issues with Capital One's internal and external constituencies including presentations and written communications including weekly newsletters and other communication vehicles.
    • Engagement with teams to ensure the Capital One impact and story can be shared with localized constituencies.
    • Partnerships with business/employee resource groups.
    • Support event coordination with internal and external partners; including but not limited to site visits, corporate sponsored events, and other events supported or executed by the Government and Policy Affairs Group.
    • Promotes voter engagement and voter participation across the company for associates and within our communities.
    • Additional special projects as needed.


The person will:
  • Exhibit a proven track record of project and process management, bringing the ability to quickly put structure in place to manage the work.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication and partnership skills which are essential for interacting and communicating with key stakeholders across all levels to manage, inform, and influence outcomes.
  • Exhibit strong verbal and written communication skills, coupled with exceptional research, data collection, and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrate organizational agility to adapt to changing demands.
  • Display strong consulting and collaboration skills.
  • Be a team player who is a self-starter, passionate about his/her work and innovative in solving problems, overcoming challenges, and achieving goals.
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate sound judgment, with exceptional attention to detail and timing.
  • Ability to oversee a budget in accordance with policies, procedures and internal control
  • Understanding of political and legislative processes.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills coupled with a confidence and comfort interacting directly with corporate executives.


Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree or military experience
  • At least 3 years of experience in political action committee, political fundraising, or campaign management experience
  • At least 2 years of experience using graphics, charts and graphs to communicate project and program management information
  • At least 1 year of experience with Federal Elections Commission (FEC) reporting, filing, or other regulatory reporting requirements.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • 4 years of experience with a blend of public policy, communication, event planning, political action committee, political fundraising, or campaign management experience.
  • 3 year of experience with Federal Elections Commission (FEC) reporting, filing, or other similar regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Advanced proficiency with Google Workspace business apps and collaboration tools, especially Sheets and Slides, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and PAC software
  • Experience managing multiple demands and constituents and staying organized in a complex business environment.
