Development & Relationship Research Manager, LECThe Law & Economics Center (LEC) is searching for a Development & Relationship Research Manager. Since its inception in 1974, the LEC has recognized the importance of timely, relevant research on public policy matters, as well as the need to communicate research findings to those who shape policy decisions. The LEC is committed to developing original, high-quality law and economics research and education programs that enhance economic understanding and provide a consistent, rational voice that bolsters today's policy discussions.About the Position:Working closely with the LEC Leadership Team, the Development & Relationship Research Manager will be responsible for implementing a comprehensive fundraising strategy for the LEC that will annually provide sufficient funds to support the comprehensive work of the LEC.Working with the Executive Director, Deputy Executive Director, and the Director of External Relationships, this position will help develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising and communication strategy for the LEC, execute strategic planning for fundraising, and oversee the logistical elements annually required by the LEC to meet its fundraising needs.The Development & Relationship Research Manager's responsibilities include the day-to-day management of the LEC's development activities as well as preparing effective donor and prospect communications and publications; drafting proposals, gift acknowledgements, interim and annual reports; managing and maintaining the LEC's information regarding donors and prospects; monitoring reporting and agreement schedules; researching and identifying prospects; scheduling and organizing development meetings with donors and potential donors, participating when appropriate; providing regular updates to the LEC Leadership Team.This position will report to the Deputy Executive Director, LEC.Responsibilities:Collaborates with LEC Leadership to develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy;Works with the Leadership Team in development of $5 million+ budget, operates within that budget, and provides tracking and reporting of projected and actual expenditures;Works with the Leadership Team to identify annual fundraising goals, particularly with respect to the number of new donors and donation amounts;Researches potential donors to the LEC, prioritizes targets, and proposes a strategy for contacting and developing new relationships and securing new donor support;Proposes a strategy for expanding and/or strengthening existing relationships and donor commitments;Identifies new development targets and creates a strategic outreach plan for execution by the LEC Leadership Team;Manages the LEC's mission and development initiatives in coordination with the Leadership Team, collaborates with Development team, sharing best practices, current challenges and opportunities in order to assist in framing an overall development strategy;Manages and maintains the LEC's database and information regarding donors and prospects;Designs or adapts a project management system, and implements it, with monthly, quarterly, annual and multiyear objectives;Completes and submits progress reports for Leadership Team review, oversees and monitors all development deadlines related to existing grants, and ensures that Executive Director and Deputy Executive Director are aware of reporting obligations on existing grants;Researches and evaluates data from multiple sources to identify prospective donors;Monitors and identifies application deadlines for new grants, proposes plans for applying for new grants;Maintains integrity and accuracy of donor data and donor database for the LEC;Updates and manages all development files;Working with LEC Program Managers, ensures that program data are collected and properly categorized for reporting to donors/potential donors in LEC Annual Report;Prepares effective donor and prospect communications and publications;Serves as the primary writer of the LEC's development function -- writing responsibilities to include proposals and periodic progress reports on deadline as required by donors, as well as drafting the Annual Report with the assistance of LEC staff;Coordinates with LEC and Antonin Scalia Law School staff to develop fundraising publications;Corresponds with external LEC constituents and stakeholders on behalf of Deputy Executive Director;Drafts and develops timely and high-quality proposals to existing and potential donors;Oversees day-to-day management of the LEC's development function;Tracks LEC data for arrival of donor funds to ensure proper allocation to LEC accounts;Provides revenue and cost analysis when requested by Deputy Executive Director;Works with the University Foundation to coordinate proper allocation of donor funds; andProvides general administrative assistance to Deputy Executive Director to include such things as monitoring general email, scheduling and calendaring meetings, maintaining calendar, preparing and providing materials for meetings including agendas, arranging meeting location/facilities, arranging travel, preparing and filing expense reimbursements.Required Qualifications:Master's degree or equivalent combination of education and related experience;Demonstrated experience working within a fundraising or membership development operation (generally 3+ years preferred);Prior management experience required;Experience working with senior university administration and faculty, and/or senior executives in the private and public sectors;Self-motivated with the ability to be flexible and adapt to Leadership's requests for information with quick turnaround times, while displaying willingness to seek clarification when instructions are unclear;Ability to manage projects to deadlines and due dates while demonstrating the ability to multi-task; demonstrated ability to follow assignments from beginning to completion;Skill in financial analysis;Skill with data analytics;Skill in time management;Skill in effective and clear written and oral communication;Skill in proofreading and editing their own work and the work of others;Ability to be entrepreneurial and creative in recognizing prospecting opportunities for the Executive Director and Deputy Executive Director;Ability to work independently with limited supervision while also demonstrating skill at working in a collaborative team environment;Skill in the use of computers, databases, and internet research;Skill in the use of Microsoft Office Suite products;Ability to synthesize complex material and information that is technical in nature;Skill in providing effective internal and external customer and constituent service;Ability to demonstrate the aptitude to represent the LEC in a professional and effective manner;Ability to be discreet in handling LEC business; andAbility to travel independently.Preferred Qualifications:Ability to speak professionally and effectively while displaying comfort with public speaking engagements;10+ years related work experience preferred;Demonstrated familiarity with law and economics as a field of study;Familiarity with the American legal system and public policy arena; andExperience and familiarity with higher education administration preferred.
