Job Summary

Aptive is seeking an Application Engineer to support digital transformation within the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). In this position the selected candidate will provide services for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Office of Information & Technology (OIT), Infrastructure Operations (IO), VA Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) Integrated Project Team (IPT). IPT is responsible for developing the master transition plan for all required activities related to its execution. Infrastructure Operations has a requirement to migrate hardware, operating systems, applications, and other elements of its IT infrastructure from Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) to IPv6.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Expert knowledge of Object Oriented coding (e.g. C++, Java) and .Net framework
  • Familiarity with transitioning from FORTRAN and COBOL to OO codebase
  • Fully experienced with configuration management of code (e.g. use of Sourceforge)
  • Provide clients with technical support as needed through a standard Software Development Life Cycle (either Agile or Waterfall) and relay information to our testing teams for ongoing maintenance and update needs
  • Suggest optimization of applications to developers in accordance with the IPv6 Software Specification
  • Support the performance of diagnostic tests and debugging procedures while improving code and re-designing tasks to meet the IPv6 Software Specification
  • Support documentation of development processes, procedures and application version histories
  • Support incorporation of lessons learned into documentation


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related technology
  • Eight years' experience working with software development or application development
  • Proven work experience as an Application Engineer or similar role
  • Extensive experience in deploying, optimizing and maintaining software
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Superb collaboration and communication
  • Great organization and time management
  • Relevant training and/or certifications as an Application Engineer


Desired Qualifications

  • Experience supporting large Cabinet-level federal agencies, ideally the Department of Veterans Affairs.
  • Experience with coding for applications to not have embedded IP addresses
  • Ability to get up to speed quickly on complex issues; desire to work in a fast-paced, rapidly evolving environment.
  • Capable self-starter with a drive to get all types of work done and high attention to detail.
  • Excellent ability to communicate across most mediums and settings.
