Job Description:
The Bilingual Family & Community Engagement Early Childhood Specialist will conduct outreach to diverse families in the City of Alexandria and infuse parent input to strengthen programming. The position's purpose is to increase community understanding of the importance of high-quality early childhood services for birth-5, including education, health, and childcare. The incumbent will encourage eligible families to access Pre-K and other high-quality early childhood education programs. An essential position goal is to build trust and open communication channels with targeted communities. The incumbent will assist with implementing family engagement strategies, activities, and resources for families of children five years old or younger, with a priority focus on families of children birth-3 who are not already enrolled in programs.The Bilingual Family & Community Engagement Early Childhood Specialist is supervised by the Family and Community Engagement (FACE) Manager with on-site support from the William Ramsay Recreation Center Manager and in collaboration with the Bruhn-Morris Family Foundation.
*This is a position that is funded by the Bruhn-Morris Family Foundation. The position is funded for two years with the possibility of additional years based on the review/evaluation of the agreement.
Education: Bachelor's degree in a job-related area with three or more years of experience in a related field or a Master's Degree in a related field preferred. (Proficiency in Spanish is highly recommended)

Experience:
- At least three years of professional experience working with the community outreach programs, schools, and/or non-profits with increasing levels of responsibility
- Experience working with diverse communities and early childhood
- Professional experience in gathering and interpreting data

- Access to a vehicle for regular travel to schools and/or community sites
Essential Functions/Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Organize and help develop grassroots outreach campaigns in the targeted, high-need communities concentrated in identified areas of Alexandria, Virginia. Campaigns are designed to provide information, tools, and resources to parents/guardians and will encourage family engagement in their children's education. The priority programs for children's birth-3 are as follows:
- Promote agreed-upon and aligned research-based programming and information, which increases parent understanding of child development and supports parents' role as their child's first teacher. Leverage support for identified programming and potential other collaborative partners
- Organize and support the development of events to link families to learning opportunities and community resources
- Connect eligible families to home-visiting programs
- Connect eligible families to Early Head Start programs within the City of Alexandria
- Encourage participation in citywide playgroups coordinated by the Center for Alexandria's Children
- Connect families to health resources as needed
- Connect families to the Virginia Child Care Subsidy Program
- Participate in Kids' First Years Enrollment Committee meetings and activities to maintain an up-to-date understanding of pre-k opportunities across Alexandria
- Collaborate in outreach campaigns for and connect parents to high-quality Alexandria pre-k programs in an effort to increase registration and awareness of preschool early childhood educational opportunities
- Engage with families to encourage their input regarding desired early childhood programs and activities based on their cultural norms, needs, and assets
- Coordinate with partners and assist FACE Manager in assessing and evaluating the effectiveness of the community outreach services in meeting established goals and objectives
- Collect, input, and track outreach data. This includes data collection and evaluation support from the Bruhn-Morris Family Foundation.
- Coordinate and collaborate with the FACE team as needed, community-based aligned FACE activities and events, and participate in FACE staff training
- Awareness and ongoing professional learning/skill building regarding current budgets for the program and ability to make smart decisions regarding budget requests
- Other aligned responsibilities as identified by the supervisor
Physical Demands:
- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods of time
Clearances:
- Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.
- Tuberculosis Skin Test.
Public Health Compliance
- Proof of COVID vaccination. Exemptions for religious/medical will be reviewed.
- Must follow safety and health protocols.
