AARP's Community, State and National Affairs (CSN) Group includes Government Relations, Programs, Volunteer Engagement, Community Outreach and Advocacy at the federal, state and local levels. It delivers on AARP's social mission by educating and engaging people 50-plus and their families, strengthening communities, and championing issues that help give people financial and health security.

The South Campaign Regional Advisor collaborates with field offices to develop and disseminate information and communications to draw attention to public issues and problems. Implements communication strategies and tactics in support of state and federal policy campaigns. Works with senior management to develop and implement advocacy strategies at the local, state, and federal levels.

Responsibilities

  • Provides strategic and technical support to state offices delivering on the organization's national, multi-state, and single state campaign goals.
  • Supports state staff and leadership, offering best practices in electoral and advocacy activities, event management, integrated multi-channel grassroots engagement, and message delivery.
  • Communicates campaign strategy, messaging, and tactics, tailoring them to fit specific state needs, as well as shepherding resources for states to achieve those goals.
  • Comply with state leaders and staff to support on-going campaign work, as well as needed rapid response.
  • Serves as thought partner with the Regional Vice Presidents on a variety of advocacy topics and provides insights on key advocacy issues and recommendations for potential engagement.
  • Forges strong relationships with regional matrix team and provides integrated support to state, building and maintaining close working relationships with state office staff and volunteer leadership.
  • Works with campaign directors to shape overall strategy and tactics for federal, multi-state, and single state campaigns.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and 3+ years as a Campaign Manager.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of Public Affairs and/or Grass Root Campaigns concepts, terms, and tactics.
  • Detailed, results-oriented, multi-tasker that is proactive, forward-thinking, and is a creative problem solver.
  • Effective communications experience across diverse audiences and geographic locations.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to succeed in a matrixed organization.
  • Superb organizational and project/task management skills.
  • Strong verbal/written communication skills, with exceptional client-facing and presentation skills.
  • Strong quantitative/analytical skills.

Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA)

AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as telecommuting workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work and telecommuting can only be done within the United States and its territories.
