Systems TechnicianGeorge Mason University Libraries is looking for a Computer Operations Technician who is enthusiastic, reliable, and eager to continuously learn new skills. This position is within the Digital Strategies and Systems Division (DS&SD).This department of the University Libraries provides technical information and assistance to support the users of technology at George Mason University Libraries. DS&SD provides first and second tier technical support; system monitoring; hardware and software maintenance; disaster recovery services; and backups. The University Libraries DS&SD strives for excellence in meeting the needs of students, faculty, staff and the community by continually researching technologies and methods which improve our services and contribute to the success of George Mason University. DS&SD ensures that all on-site and in-shop repairs, assessments, and installations of computer equipment and university approved software are handled in a timely, courteous, and professional manner for students, faculty, and staff.George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff, and strongly encourages candidates to apply who will enrich Mason's academic and culturally inclusive environment.Responsibilities:This position is responsible for the technical support, installation, troubleshooting, and repair of Mason owned and supported computer hardware, software, printers, and various types of peripherals, for the University Libraries, to include Fenwick Library, Mason Square Library and Prince William Campus Library public and staff equipment.Required Qualifications:Skill and experience installing Mac and PC components and a diverse number of software products;Demonstrated ability to load software, load video and printer drivers, and optimize PC and MAC configurations;Demonstrated ability to solve complex technical issues;Demonstrated willingness to learn new skills;Demonstrated ability to analyze hardware and software problems, troubleshoot, and hardware repairs;Demonstrated working knowledge of most commonly used software products [e.g. Microsoft Windows OS, Mac OS, Microsoft Office Suite and other office productivity products, etc.], and ability to instruct customers in the basic use of these products;Demonstrated skills in interacting with both co-workers and customers, resulting in high quality customer support service; andA bachelor's degree, or an equivalent combination of experience and training in Computer Science or Information Technology.Preferred Qualifications:Demonstrated work experience (3+ years of experience preferred);Extensive, successful customer service support experience; andRedHat and/or Apple certifications desired.
