Job Announcement

Responsible for assessment and psychiatric care of clients who have a wide range of psychiatric disorders that may be co-occurring with substance use disorders, physical illness, and/or intellectual disabilities. Integral member of multidisciplinary treatment teams. Provides expert consultation and guidance regarding diagnosis and treatment planning. Duties include comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, assessments, medication management, family meetings and crisis intervention when needed. Responsible for documenting all clinical information into an electronic health record with e-prescribing. Adheres to and complies with all relevant local, state, federal and regulatory standards

Illustrative Duties

  • Prescribes treatment plan and psychotropic medication based on medication evaluation.
  • Supports other therapists in emergency psychiatric evaluations.
  • Recommends disposition.
  • Responds to requests for assistance in crisis intervention situations as part of a combined staff approach.
  • Provides consulting support for therapists in several disciplines and varied aspects of the mental hygiene program.
  • Leads or participates in administrative, programmatic, and clinical meetings.

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Extensive knowledge of modern psychiatric theory and practice.
  • Thorough knowledge of causes, treatment, and prevention of mental illness.
  • Considerable knowledge of available community resources useful in the treatment and prevention of emotional maladjustments.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative relations with professional, administrative, and other persons working in related fields, such as local welfare and public health departments, schools, courts, law enforcement hospitals and other institutions.
  • Ability to plan and execute work effectively.

Employment Standards

Doctor of medicine degree. Completion of an accredited psychiatry residency training program at the time of hire and that includes two years of experience in outpatient settings with medication management.

  • Current and valid license to practice medicine in the Commonwealth of Virginia at the time of hire;
  • Eligibility for Board Certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology as a psychiatrist at the time of hire;
  • Controlled Substance Registration Certificate issued by the DEA at the time of hire.

The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, a Child Protective Services Registry check, and sanction screening to the satisfaction of the employer. A TB screening upon hire and annually thereafter.

This position is emergency/essential services personnel. (Required to report for duty during inclement weather and/or other emergencies).

All newly hired employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (two weeks after the last required dose) as a condition of employment or obtain approval of a medical or religious exemption prior to their start date. Proof of an exemption or vaccination status will be required during the pre-employment onboarding process.   • Experience with treatment of serious mental illness and substance use disorders in a community setting.
  • Experience with leadership and management of MD/NPs.
  • Experience and skills working with child and adolescents and older adults.

Ability to stand, stoop, bend, stretch, walk, climb, sit, type on a keyboard, lift up to 20 pounds; read, write, and use a computer. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.

Panel Interview and may include a practical exercise.
