Job Announcement

Provides a full range of professional support to the Board of Supervisors (BOS) and the Planning Commission (PC). Specific duties include:

  • Maintains the county's public meetings calendar for the Board of Supervisors and the Planning Commission in accordance with Virginia Freedom of Information Act (VFOIA).
  • Maintains the Board of Supervisors Committee meeting calendar and coordinates Committee meeting materials posted to the web. Responsible for archiving BOS Committee agendas, meeting materials and minutes. Manages updated list of staff assigned to each BOS Committee. Tracks BOS Committee meeting assignments.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of Diligent Board Books and serves as agency back-up for compiling Board of Supervisor meeting schedules, agendas, and Board packages, to include web and electronic board book versions.
  • Tracks Board of Supervisors meeting room and time assignments.
  • Responsible for meeting logistics between Joint BAC/BOS meetings.
  • Serves as the agency contact for VFOIA requests and tracks all VFOIA requests received by the office. Maintains a working knowledge of County FOIA procedures and processes.
  • In accordance with state law and County Code, manages the county-wide distribution, receipt, and filing of Statement of Economic Interests forms (to include the annual and monthly filings). Maintains a liaison with the Virginia Conflict of Interest and Ethics Advisory Council on matters related to filings.
  • Updates county Procedural Memorandum and office-wide procedures based on changes in state Code.
  • Tracks BOS and IDA members VFOIA and COIA training. Notifies Clerk to Board and IDA members of upcoming required training and maintaining records of compliance.
  • Responsible for inventory and purchasing of supplies for BOS and PC meetings (beverages, snacks).
  • Creates Annual Report for PC.
  • Staffs Planning Commission evening meetings.
  • Works independently and conducts special projects at the direction of the Director.

Illustrative Duties

  • Performs designated segments of projects or programs with well-defined objectives, including activities such as data collection, synthesis of data gathered to support analysis, and documentation of findings and recommendations;
  • Assists with measuring and analyzing indicators of performance, quality, quantity and efficiency of services;
  • Compiles and provides business information to management;
  • Assists in implementing business improvements, such as changes to policies, work practices, processes and procedures;
  • Contributes to position papers, evaluation reports and presentations.

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Basic knowledge of mission, goals and objectives of the organizational unit, program or activities to which incumbent is assigned;
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques relating to the functional area of business operation (e.g. personnel, budgeting and financial management, contract administration and management);
  • Ability to identify possible solutions for solving business problems;
  • Ability to perform a variety of fact-finding techniques (e.g., interview, case analysis, observation, research, benchmarking) to gather information in support of programs, projects, studies, assessments and evaluations;
  • Ability to aggregate and assimilate data to identify major patterns, trends and themes regarding organizational and program effectiveness and efficiency;
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing;
  • Ability to use word processing and presentation software to prepare documents, and to use spreadsheet and statistical analysis software packages to store, manipulate, analyze and present data.

Employment Standards

Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following: graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in the field related to the assigned functional area.

Four years of increasingly complex technical experience in the assigned functional area, comparable to experience at the Admin Assistant IV, or higher, level.

This class can serve as a bridge class enabling individuals who do not meet the educational or professional experience standards listed above to qualify for this class by possessing four years of increasingly complex technical experience in the assigned functional area, comparable to experience at the Admin Assistant IV, or higher, level.

The purpose of this bridge class is to promote upward mobility within the Fairfax County workforce. However, persons qualifying for this class on the basis of their technical experience may not substitute this technical experience for education, or for professional experience, in order to qualify for other employment opportunities.

Job is generally sedentary in nature, however, visual acuity is required to read data on computer monitor; incumbent must be able to operate keyboard driven equipment. Ability to lift up to 15 pounds. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
