Job Description

The Alexandria City High School Campus Administrator acts on behalf of the Executive Principal in leading the campus of the Connected High School Network (CHSN). This position is responsible for implementing the instructional program and ensuring its alignment with division regulations for curriculum design and assessment; providing and promoting a research-based, cohesive curriculum and superior instructional delivery for the success of all students. The Campus Administrator will also lead the daily operations of the campus in collaboration with the other CHSN campuses.

This job reports to the Executive Principal.

Qualifications

Education: Master's degree in job-related area.

Certificates & Licenses: Valid Virginia Department of Education license required, or eligibility to obtain one, with an endorsement in Administration and Supervision.

Experience:
  • Administrative and teaching experience related to working in socio-economically and culturally diverse school settings.
  • 3-5 years of experience as a school-based administrator.
  • Demonstrated expertise in evidence-based curriculum design, assessment, and instructional practices.
  • Documented experience in leading secondary educational program development and implementation, including professional learning in evidence-based best practices for diverse student populations.
  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience necessary to work effectively with students, teachers, administrators, families, and community members.

Essential Functions

Campus Leadership and School Improvement
  • Articulates and stewards the vision, mission, and priorities of the high school and school division.
  • Leads and evaluates the campus-specific administrative team to ensure that all aspects of school operations, student support, and instructional programming are planned and implemented.
  • Leads the staff leadership team, school-based SST team, and overall MTSS process.
  • Maintains high levels of effectiveness with Professional Learning Communities whereby student data are analyzed and teams collaborate for enhancing school improvement.
  • Provides leadership for instructional enhancements and interventions that improve student learning and student outcomes.
  • Facilitates staff in the collection, analysis, interpretation, and documented actions of student achievement data (including benchmark assessments, related diagnostic and formative assessment data, and summative performance assessment data. Supports staff and school actions related to the collected data.
  • Establishes expectations for high levels of student engagement in classrooms and on each campus.

Instructional Leadership
  • Acts as the principal of campus and oversee all operations, instructional programming, and student support structures necessary for the campus to be high functioning and in collaboration with other CHSN campuses.
  • Ensures the effectiveness of the 9-12 instructional program in all content areas, including viable and sustained processes for master schedule, curriculum implementation, assessment, and instructional delivery.
  • Leads and evaluates the campus-specific Assistant Principals for instruction and student support.
  • Ensures the implementation of the ACPS curriculum, fidelity of pacing, and reinforcement of higher-order reasoning, critical thinking, and creative expression for all learners.
  • Administers the instructional program to provide a culturally-responsive learning environment.
  • Promotes academic excellence in a nurturing environment.
  • Ensures that racial equity and cultural competency is at the heart of the school community including the development of a master schedule, class assignments, and instructional planning and delivery.
  • Participates in the school improvement planning (SIP) process and ensures the implementation of actions related to SIP goals (such as monitoring on-time graduation rates, special populations, etc.).

School Operations and Learning Environment
  • Creates and nurtures a positive school climate with high levels of effective collaboration and communication with all stakeholders.
  • Provides leadership and oversight for programs serving special populations of students including EL, SPED, TAG, Advanced Placement, and Dual Enrollment Programs.
  • Promotes staff professionalism and collaboration through the instructional process.
  • Supports the Assistant Principals in staff selection (certified and classified), staff orientation, and mentoring processes.
  • Ensures appropriate student supervision (e.g., arrivals/departures, attendance, parking lots, lunch periods, changing classes, study rooms, extracurricular programs, athletic events, etc.)
  • Serves as a point of contact for campus-specific outside service providers.
  • Helps update/implement the school and district's emergency preparedness/crisis response plan.
  • Maintains high standards for appropriate conduct with and for staff and students.
  • Promotes a safe, efficient, and effective work and learning environment.

Parents and Community Engagement/Partnerships
  • Maintains open and effective communications.
  • Encourages family organizations and supports school-sponsored activities.
  • Monitors community demographics, resources, and emerging trends.
  • Fosters and maintains a strong community commitment of support for the school division and high school.
  • Addresses familial concerns and complaints in a timely and effective manner.
  • Responds to familial concerns and complaints on behalf of the Executive Principal

King Street - Campus-Specific Duties
  • Lead the instructional and support staff of the campus as they implement the instructional and support programs of the campus.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Principal to continually monitor the implementation of the learning academy structures in supporting students and families.
  • Support and align the goals of the International Academy with that of the larger overall high school program.
  • Supervise 8 assistant principals at the King Street Campus.
  • Collaborate with all administrators and Campus Administrators to ensure alignment with the overall school to include all campuses.

Other Duties as Assigned
  • Performs other specific job-related duties as directed by the Executive Principal .
  • Assists with unexpected, urgent, and emergency situations as needed.


Clearances:
  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.
  • Tuberculosis Skin Test.

Public Health Compliance
  • Proof of COVID vaccination. Exemptions for religious/medical will be reviewed.
  • Must follow safety and health protocols.
