Job Summary

Join Aptive as an Instructional Designer supporting the expansion of health system transformation and innovation, implementation and operations support, and healthcare business enabling services to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Veterans Health Administration (VHA).

Primary Responsibilities

The Instructional Designer has healthcare transformation instructional design experience and will be responsible for supporting VHA's Journey to become a High Reliability Organization (HRO) by developing training for the entire VHA Enterprise:
  • Create engaging learning activities and compelling course content that enhances retention and transfer
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts and identify target audience's training needs, competency frameworks and metrics for success
  • Design and develop curriculum, total course materials for participants and facilitators, including student outlines, handouts, facilitator guides, performance exercises, evaluations, activities, job aids and all other required materials.
  • Conduct instructional research and provide analysis of relevant materials for external communication
  • Identify and present instructional end goals and create content that matches them
  • Visualize instructional graphics, the user interface and the finished product
  • Apply tested instructional design theories, practice and methods
  • Create interactive and engaging learning experiences (e.g., scenarios, simulations, activities) for in-person, virtual and online classroom environments
  • Decide on the criteria used to measure learner's performance and develop assessment instruments
  • Maintain project documentation and course folders

Duties may include:
  • Developing creative design of learning content and activities; ability to mock-up designs and/or lead design sessions with graphic artists/multimedia developers to develop learning content
  • Facilitating to groups of content owners/ Subject Matter Experts through the design, development and implementation of educational curricula
  • Evaluate instructional programs, course content, and instructional methodologies

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a related field
  • 3+ years of experience with creating high-quality, interactive, and effective learning solutions for classroom, web-based, or webinar delivery
  • Experience with instructional strategy, instruction, or design methodologies for adult learners
  • Development of instructional evaluation (Kirkpatrick evaluation knowledge and experience preferred) and competency-based learning systems
  • Instructional Design, User Experience, or Human-Centered Design Certification
  • Experience with technical editing, grammar, and writing
  • Strong hands-on analytical, project management and communication skills
  • Excellent ability to communicate across most mediums and settings
  • Ability to be flexible, creative and think outside of the box
  • Proven experience working in a complex, fast-paced business environment
  • Authorized to work in the U.S
  • Ability to obtain a Public Trust

Desired Qualifications

  • VHA experience highly desired
  • Knowledge of Government health care operations directly related to Healthcare transformation or experience in a healthcare setting
  • Prosci® change management certified
  • Knowledge of managing SharePoint intranets and Adobe Creative Suite
