Senior Director, Partnerships & Investments - EMB (Remote Eligible)

Emerging Merchant Businesses (EMB) is making Capital One the go to place for merchants who want to grow their customer base. We use our proprietary data, relationships, and platforms to enable merchants to make real-time intelligent marketing, CX and payment decisions to better serve their customers. Today, we serve merchants through Capital One Shopping (high value, incremental sales), Buy Now Pay Later (checkout conversion) and Apollo (consumer insights engine).

This is an exciting time for EMB as we look to continue aggressively expanding our existing businesses. This growth will come not only through organic growth in existing programs, but also through acquisitions of new partners and/or investments to accelerate and drive the EMB agenda, the focus of this role.

In this Sr. Director, Partnerships & Investments role, you will help drive efforts for EMB's new partner acquisition strategy, including identification of target businesses, as well as developing the targeted approach and ultimately the successful acquisition of the partnership programs that we pursue.

You will work with a cross functional team to:
  • Identify and evaluate potential partner companies, brands, and investment opportunities
  • Successfully compete in the market to win new partnerships through the creation of tailored pitch strategies, including:
    • Customer research and development of insights
    • Developing a point of view around the consumer value proposition
    • Collaborating on partner economic offers
    • Crafting program positioning and omni channel marketing plans
  • Engage across the Merchant ecosystem - Proactively identify and engage with potential partners and investment targets in the EMB domain
  • Develop Investment Opportunities - Partner with Ventures and Corp Dev to prioritize and build investment cases for EMB related equity investments
  • Manage Partners / Investments - Closely engage with partners and existing Investments to ensure we get full leverage from their learnings, experience and expertise
  • Partnership Commercialization - Support the commercialization of Partner and investment capabilities to in-market products and businesses
  • Build, engage and develop a high performing team


Responsibilities:
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders and external consultants and potential partners
  • Drive the RFP process for new partners across the organization
  • Drive the economic, deal and contract negotiations with potential partners
  • Identify shortlist of potential partnerships/investments across a set of prioritized domains
  • Manage initial contact with potential partners, research specific partner and customer needs, and incorporate into partnership pitches
  • Support end-to-end investment process (lead-gen to learnings capture) for 2-3 investments
  • Establish foundation of commercial partnership based New Business
  • Build and engage team


Competencies:
  • Proven ability to identify opportunities and deliver effective strategies to generate results
  • Strong analytical, project management, presentation, marketing and creative skills
  • Proven ability to negotiate and influence senior level decision makers
  • Experienced in strategic marketing planning and product development
  • Ability to make strategically bold decisions in a disciplined, fact-based manner
  • Proven ability to work independently and demonstrate intellectual rigor
  • Organizational skills and effective time management to succeed in a competitive and dynamic environment


Basic Qualifications :
  • Bachelor's Degree or military experience
  • At least 7 years experience in consulting OR at least 7 years experience in financial services client development OR at least 7 years experience in financial services partnership management


Preferred Qualifications :
  • Master's Degree in Business Administration (MBA)
  • 3+ years People Management experience
  • 10+ years experience in consulting
  • 10+ years experience in financial services client development
  • 10+ years experience in financial services partnership managemen t

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

New York City:

$258,545 - $305,025 for Sr. Director, Bus Development

Colorado:

$219,074 - $258,458 for Sr. Director, Bus Development

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate's offer letter.

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location.
