Job Description

The Washington Post is looking for an experienced social media editor to join our expanding social team. We want a savvy editor who can adroitly connect Post journalism and audiences across platforms.

This position is on our core social team, which is responsible for The Post's main branded accounts on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Reddit and Telegram. The team optimizes the distribution of our empowering and award-winning journalism to attract and engage new audiences. This role requires collaboration with reporters and editors across the newsroom and coordination with other Curation and Platforms teams.

Candidates should have experience managing a news organization's social accounts during breaking news, planned live events and quiet moments when there is time to craft that perfect share text. We're looking for someone who writes sharp headlines targeted toward specific audiences and has a command of voice and tone on social media. Comfort using analytics tools such as Chartbeat, Google Analytics and Facebook/Twitter/Instagram engagement metrics is preferred, as is the ability to understand and act upon these insights when appropriate.

Please consider applying if you have several of the following attributes: at least two years of journalism experience, experience using social management tools such as SocialFlow, experience reading and using analytics to make decisions, fluency with social networks such as YouTube or TikTok, and the skills to investigate and verify claims on social media.

This position is based in our Washington newsroom and could involve night and/or weekend work.

Candidates should upload a résumé and cover letter outlining your experience, including the accounts you have run before, to our jobs portal. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled, but those received by 11/18/2022 will be prioritized. The cover letter should be addressed to Assignment Editor for Social Kyley Schultz and Deputy Director of Social Travis Lyles. Internal candidates can apply here.
