The Fraud and Payment Operations Director is responsible for overseeing the end to end process related to the detection and deterrence of fraud and gaming in the Rewards platform. The role is responsible for identifying and implementing fraud prevention protocols, assessing fraud risks, detecting, investigating and validating fraud events, coordinating with impacted business units and partners, reporting findings and making recommendations to management. Ownership of the counter fraud roadmap, creating, gathering, managing, and communicating product requirements, strategies, roadmaps, and specifications.


  • Responsible for managing technical projects and supporting documentation, including oversight of the development and maintenance of the Rewards payment application.
  • Responsible for being the Payment Fraud and Gaming SME.
  • Stays current on emerging technology, trends, research and policies. within the fraud and gaming prevention space.
  • Presents issues and resolutions to senior leadership.
  • Works with key stakeholders across the program and enterprise to ensure alignment and effectiveness of counter fraud measures.
  • Lead teams to investigate instances of fraud within the platform and make determinations based on data and behavioral observations.


  • College Degree in technical field preferred but not required and 7+ years of experience.
  • Strong data analysis skills to identify patterns and anomalies in large data sets to proactively identify fraud.
  • Ability to manage multiple vendors (5+) and facilitate collaboration across all of them.
  • Experience with Agile methodologies; must be comfortable working in an Agile, cross-functional, matrixed organization.
  • Strong ability to lead a cross-functional team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as strong problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with tools utilized such as Jira, Confluence, Slack, and Visio.

Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA)

AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as telecommuting workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work and telecommuting can only be done within the United States and its territories.
