Summary

The MIL Corporation is looking for a Drafter II to support capture, presentation, and configuration management (CM) of the design and installation artifacts for Inside Plant (ISP) and Outside Plant (OSP) telecommunications cabling and related cabling infrastructure. This role supports a Federal Government client in Washington, DC, and surrounding areas, with occasional travel to sites outside of the metro-DC area.

While the primary function of this position is to provide drafting and CM support, the role offers an opportunity for learning of, and possible growth into, infrastructure installer/technician capabilities.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in performing site surveys to capture survey and design artifacts.
  • Create engineering drawings and installation data packages.
  • Interface with the project managers and attend project meetings with end customer and sponsors.
  • Submit daily or weekly status reports as requested.
  • Coordinate with project managers to create Bill of Materials and other procurement documentation.
  • Assist as required for any necessary pre-installation testing of materials, including CM functions such as recording serial numbers.
  • Provide as-built drawings and documentation using CAD, Visio, and Microsoft Office products.
  • Produce engineering / installation design documentation and test plans as required.
  • Review final technical data package (TDP) products (drawings, equipment lists, etc.) for completeness, correctness, and consistency.

Required Qualifications
  • Experience with CAD tools such as AutoCAD, WireCAD, etc.
  • Experience with creating infrastructure drawings such as wiring diagrams, rack elevations, and related artifacts.
  • At least five (5) years of experience with CAD tools
  • Ability to develop and interpret engineering packages and engineering change orders.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and organization skills.
  • Ability to interface professionally with individuals at all levels and communicate effectively with project staff and other team members.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Visio, Microsoft Office suite, and SharePoint.
  • Per federal guidelines, you may be required to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination or willingness to obtain vaccination.

Desired Qualifications
  • Top Secret / SCI clearance with Yankee White.
  • Experience documenting data centers and server farms.
  • Experience documenting inside and outside cable plant environments.
  • BICSI Installer or similar certification.
  • An understanding of TIA/EIA, BICSI, IEEE as they apply to the installation of OSI Layer 1 infrastructure.
  • Experience with or knowledge of testing fiber and/or copper.
  • Confined space certification.
  • Associate's or bachelor's degree in a related technical area.

Travel

Up to 10% of the time, to CONUS and OCONUS sites as required.

Education

A high school diploma, with training in CAD tools.

Clearance

All applicants for this position must possess a current Top Secret/SCI clearance with the ability to obtain Yankee White; please note that the clearance process takes into account financial background aspects.
