E-Resources LibrarianThe Virtual Library of Virginia (VIVA), Virginia's academic library consortium, with its central office at the George Mason University Libraries, seeks to fill the position of E-Resources Librarian. About the Position:The VIVA E-Resources Librarian works closely with the VIVA staff, member libraries, and committees to manage the standard collections renewal process and opt-in subscriptions by member libraries and provide e-resource access, management, and trouble-shooting. The annual expenditure for collections managed by this position is currently $18.5 million. The ideal candidate will have a firm understanding of the electronic resource life cycle and demonstrated success in working in a highly collaborative environment. Responsibilities:In consultation with the VIVA Director, manages the standard collections renewal process for shared products as well as opt-in subscriptions in a variety of electronic formats by member libraries, ensuring that all annual subscriptions are accurate and completed in a timely manner;Leads the management of VIVA's electronic information resources, including maintaining knowledge base collections, the A to Z list, and title lists, and develops and manages workflows and documentation to support the electronic resource life cycle for VIVA products;Reviews publisher and vendor contracts prior to agreement by VIVA, assists with drafting sole source justifications for acquisitions, and assists with negotiation in RFPs relevant to collections;Troubleshoots electronic resource access problems for member libraries through communication with vendors and documents common electronic resource problems with solutions. Manages access changes for member libraries, such as IP range updates;Establishes relationships with vendors, publishers, and member libraries in order to proactively address ordering, access, and performance issues;Prepares analytical reports by compiling and reporting usage and other relevant metrics needed to support licensing and subscription renewal decisions as well as identifies potential collection areas of growing user demand;Creates, manages, and enhances data and data visualizations representing VIVA's collections for internal reports and outward-facing resources such as the VIVA website;Interacts with member library staff to answer questions, provide information about VIVA's collections, or refer to likely sources of assistance;Participates in a work culture that promotes equity, diversity, and inclusion and actively works to forward these values through all programs and services;Participates as needed in VIVA committees, task forces, and advisory groups; andIdentifies, evaluates, and stays current with emerging trends, resources, practices, and standards in electronic resource management, usage statistics, data management, access and discovery to enhance library services.Required Qualifications:Applicants should bring the following knowledge, skills, and abilities to this position: ALA accredited Master's Degree in Library or Information Science or certified foreign equivalent, or an equivalent combination of relevant graduate study and experience;Demonstrably successful experience in an academic library or library consortium (typically a minimum of 2 years);Demonstrated experience successfully and effectively managing electronic resources;Demonstrated experience working with spreadsheet and database software packages;Customer service focus, as well as a positive, proactive approach to problem solving;Excellent interpersonal, communication, and project management skills;Ability to build collaborative and mutually beneficial working relationships with people of varying backgrounds;Demonstrated flexibility in adapting to change, ability to work well under pressure, ability to meet deadlines, and ability to balance multiple functions and tasks; andWilling and able to travel to meetings and to attend conferences and meetings representing VIVA.Preferred Qualifications:The following education and/or skill sets are preferred:Understanding of the electronic resources life cycle as described in the NASIG Core Competencies for Electronic Resources Librarians;Experience troubleshooting e-resources access problems;Working knowledge of metadata standards and best practices;Experience working with e-resources in a consortium or shared environment;Experience with statistical standards such as COUNTER and SUSHI;Demonstrated proficiency in collection assessment and data analysis; andKnowledge of trends in library technology and electronic resources management.Appointment/Benefits/Salary: 12-month professional faculty appointment; health plan options and paid life insurance; several retirement plans, including TIAA-CREF; 24 vacation days and 12 paid holidays; tuition waiver for self. Salary is commensurate with education and professional experience and not less than $75,000.
