We provide leadership for the university community by:Creating transformational educational programs and initiativesBuilding campus and community partnershipsSupporting student academic successFacilitating Mason Impact activitiesProviding education and support for learning outcome assessmentThe mission of the Office of Academic Advising (OAA) is to provide leadership for a consistent and quality undergraduate academic experience at George Mason University. The OAA consists of the Director of Undergraduate Student Success, an Assistant Director who manages a team of Exploratory Advisors, and Advising Coordinators (including this position). The OAA works collaboratively with academic units through the Academic Advising Liaisons Committee and the Mason Academic Advising Network to provide academic advising to students in programs across Mason, and with the Mason Care Network to provide holistic support for students.About the Position:Reporting to the Director of Undergraduate Student Success, the Health Professions Advising Coordinator has primary responsibility for advising students as they explore health professions, through direct advising and coordination of health career advising in academic units. The Coordinator is responsible for encouraging our diverse students to pursue health careers, and increasing the success rate of applicants, reflecting Mason's commitment to inclusive excellence. The Coordinator supports the Mason advising community as they integrate health career planning with students' academic major program advising specific to students' professional goals. The Coordinator manages pre-health advising and application data, provides annual reports, and uses the data to improve student academic success.Responsibilities:Serve as knowledgeable and skilled health professions advisor for students interested in fields such as medicine, dentistry, veterinary, podiatry, optometry, pharmacy, and allied health professions such as physical and occupational therapy, physician assistant, athletic training, and other health professions;Coordinate Health Professions Advising across academic units;Conduct program assessment and provide accurate reporting of student health career advising, applications, and results;Engage in professional development and scholarship to maintain currency in health professions, application procedures, and academic advising; andSupport the goals of the Office of Academic Advising and Undergraduate Education through collaboration and participation in unit activities.Required Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in health professions field of study, or equivalent combination of education and experience;Professional higher education experience advising in students interested in health professions;Demonstrated experience with leadership/coordination, communication, program development, and administration;Experience building partnerships with the university and external constituents associated with health professions careers and education;Experience supporting students from diverse backgrounds;Experience advising students in the MCAT, GRE, DAT, AMCAS, VMCAS, ADEA AADSAS, PTCAS, and/or other application tests and systems;Experience working collaboratively as a member of a team that shares responsibility for achieving advising excellence, supporting student success, and implementing strategies to achieve organizational goals;Experience using technology to gather information and communicate effectively;Knowledge of medical career options, undergraduate preparation for medical careers, and post-graduate application procedures to help students succeed in meeting their professional and personal goals;Knowledge of best practices in academic advising to provide diverse students equitable and inclusive academic support; andKnowledge of undergraduate curriculum, policies, and processes.Preferred Qualifications:Master's degree in related field;Experience in website development and social media platforms;Experience teaching undergraduate students in a health-related field;Membership and participation in the National Association of Advisors for the Health Professions; andDemonstrated commitment to creating and maintaining a culture of equity, access, diversity, and inclusion.
