The Graduate School (GS) at the University of Maryland, College Park invites applications for the Assistant to the Dean (AD). This 12-month full-time position works directly with the GS Dean, Associate and Assistant Deans along with university/college level officials, Directors/Coordinators of Graduate Studies, GS staff, and other constituents to advance the overall activities/objectives of the GS. This position will:

● Manage GS Communications – overseeing Office of the Dean shared email accounts, triaging communications, providing/drafting executive responses on behalf of the Dean, and maintaining administrative/communications lists.

● Manage documentation and processes for all GS policies, program curricula, student policy additions, modifications, and exceptions.

● Organize and implement campus-wide GS events including online orientation for new graduate students, celebrations for doctoral candidates, and Tax Preparation Program, and serve as ad-hoc member of the Graduate Student Success Team.

● For Office of the Dean – provide calendar/schedule/travel management and meeting support for the Dean, Associate/Assistant Deans; organize internal/external GS meetings; manage speaking engagements working with GS staff/campus units to ensure deans are briefed for events on and off campus; oversee administrative support for renovations/ maintenance/facilities, and perform special projects as assigned by the deans.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree required. Four years of full-time (or equivalent) experience in an administrative or operational work environment. Outstanding project management and executive communication skills. Advanced technical skills with Google Suite (Google Drive administration, Google Sheets databases, Form to Sheets workflows), Qualtrics, and Adobe Suite. Demonstrated ability to handle confidential and time-sensitive matters with diplomacy and discretion. Preferences: Master’s degree preferred. Administrative experience in an academic department or college. Extensive experience with policies and procedures related to graduate education at the University of Maryland, College Park. Advanced experience with MailChimp and Drupal. Supervisory experience of staff, graduate assistants, and/or student employees. Proven ability to adapt to multiple and changing priorities. Experience with graduate education is a plus
