Job Summary

Aptive is seeking an expert in the application of Human Centered Design (HCD) practices and principles. This person would ideally have a UI/UX Designer background and some project management experience. This position would include leading client groups in requirements gathering and assisting in guiding UI/UX developers in interface development, testing and evaluation. The ideal candidate would have demonstrated experience delivering user centric design products, preferably in support of federal clients. The UI/UX Designer will work closely with the Senior Project Manager to understand client vision and user needs to develop accessible and seamless user experiences on internal and external site platforms. The HCD Specialist will support the application of HCD principles in stakeholder interviews, wireframe development, information architecture, and front-end development, while recommending design-centered improvements to existing content.

This mid-level full-time position is remote. This is a contingent hire position.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assess content, design, and structure of current client websites/custom applications.
  • Use HCD principles to determine client goals in creating and improving interfaces.
  • Propose solutions for organizing and displaying content.
  • Audit website/app content including instructions to inform site organization and architecture.
  • Support development of design wireframes, functional elements, and graphics.
  • Facilitate stakeholder and user interview sessions.
  • Support delivery of a fully functional website/app with content approved by the client.
  • Monitor website/app to ensure designs operate effectively.
  • Support the Senior Product Designer in fulfilling client requirements as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 4+ years of user centered design experience across multiple platforms.
  • Bachelor's degree in related field.
  • Human-Centered Design (HCD) certification required.
  • Experience applying the principles of HCD under real world circumstances including leading groups in requirements gathering interface evaluation and testing.
  • Experience supporting large federal agencies, ideally the Department of Veterans Affairs.
  • Experience with UI/UX design platforms, such as Adobe XD.
  • Active Public Trust security clearance preferred; ability to obtain one required.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.

Desired Qualifications

  • Ability to get up to speed quickly on complex issues.
  • Knowledge of the DMAIC strategy and/or as Six Sigma credentials.
  • Capable self-starter with a drive to get all types of work done and high attention to detail.
  • Excellent ability to communicate across multiple mediums and settings.
  • Project management experience
  • Desire to work in a fast-paced, rapidly evolving environment.
  • Strong time management, creativity and problem-solving skills.
