This Corporate Attorney II could primarily focus on procurement, IT contract and general contract review. Also, identifies and mitigates legal risk. Researches and analyzes applicable and evolving legal issues. Structures legal obligations in contract to protect the interests of the organization. Provides expertise, advice, and services on issues concerning the rights, obligations, and privileges of the organization and strategies for negotiating and resolving disputed contract terms and conditions. Ensures legal and regulatory compliance. Consults with senior leadership regarding strategic alliances, mergers, and acquisition transactions, including due diligence, drafting, structuring, negotiation, and execution of appropriate agreements, including software and other technology agreements. Advises business units and affiliated entities in order to serve the goals and mission of the organization in a manner that is compliant, ethical, and timely. Consults and collaborates with management to develop strategic plans and ensures organizational activities meet legal and regulatory compliance. Works collaboratively to accomplish organization goals and execute on organization mission.

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal guidance on membership issues.
  • Provide legal guidance on privacy.
  • Provide legal guidance on intellectual property matters.

Qualifications

  • J.D. degree plus a minimum of 8 years related experience or a combination of experience and education.
  • Must be, or be able to become, a member in good standing with the District of Columbia bar or equivalent state bar.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Comfortable public speaker with ability to make formal presentations to management and to provide engaging, clear, training for new managers and other staff who may have minimal legal background.
  • Good judgment, sensitivity to people and what motivates them, good negotiator and mediator.
  • Ability to function independently with limited guidance.
  • Must function with the highest degree of integrity and ethical standards. Passion for our nonprofit mission is a plus.
  • Ability to handle multiple, high-level complex projects at one time and high volumes of work on an ongoing basis, with strong attention to detail.
  • In-office environment with the ability to work effectively surrounded by moderate noise.

Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA)

AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as telecommuting workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work and telecommuting can only be done within the United States and its territories.
